Cloonfad United 15/5/2012
Cloonfad are through to next Sunday's Premier Division Cup Final following a 3-2 win over Lisnamult Celtic on Sunday last. Cloonfad played with a gale force wind in the first half and a freak goal after 8 mins from Danny Flatley which was aided by the end ended up in the net. On 20 mins Declan Costello's threw ball found Ger Fagan and he calmly finished to make it 2-0. Cloonfad supporters feared the worst at half time as the new 2 goal lead would be difficult to hang on to facing the wind. However they only conceded twice and as the game went to extra time neither side looked like scoring and the game looked destined for penalties. However a Clooonfad corner kick in the last minute of extra time found its way to the net via a Lisnamult player which means Cloonfad contests next Sunday's final versus the winners of Moore/Ballinasloe. Kick-off: 12 noon. Please support on the day.
The U-14s had a good win away to Kilkerrin on a 3-2 scoreline. Cian Ruane, Dylan Ruane and goal keeper Liam Cregg scored a penalty. The U-12s were beaten 8-4 by Strokestown United. Darrag Heneghan scored 2 and Conor Flynn and Shane Waldron got one each.
Best wishes to Paddy Flatley who picked up a serious leg injury in our last game. Hope to have you back for the start of next season.
Thanks to David Quinn from Quinns Irish Bar Salou Spain for his sponsorships of training gear for our underage sides.
Glen Celtic News 13/5/2012
*First Team*
The First Team’s season came to an end in the space of four short days last weekend when they went out of the Divisional and Roscommon Cup
competitions. While it was disappointing to go out, it must still be remembered that the original goal was the league and that was achieved.
The game against Ballaghaderreen was a tough affair and the lack of match practice and injuries took their toll. Ballaghaderreen scored early but
Celtic fought back and Sean Kenny Bundled the ball into the net mid way through the first half. To their credit, Ballaghaderreen were in control
and it must be a record the amount of times that they hit both the post and crossbar. With time almost up Ballaghaderreen took the lead and they would
not relinquish this lead. Adding a third in the second half to win 3-1. We wish them well in the rest of the competition.
The following Monday a Glen Celtic team missing several regulars travelled to Premier Division side Castlerea Celtic where they were beaten 5-2. David
Kelly produced an outstanding save early on but could do nothing about Castlerea’s opening goal after ten minutes. Castlerea then added a second
before one of the best moves of the game saw Paul Dolan lay the ball brilliantly to David Keegan who made no mistake. Glen Celtic almost
snatched an equaliser when a free kick from Barry Curtin caused panic in the Castlerea defence and the ball was nearly headed in for an own goal.
Despite this pressure, Castlerea hit back before half time and went in 3-1 up at the break.
Glen Celtic showed excellent determination and at times threatened the Castlerea goal. However, Castlerea took their chances and added a fourth
before a great run from Sean Molloy and pressure from Keith Davis forced an own goal.
Still Glen Celtic never gave up and worked hard throughout only to concede a fifth that sub keeper Brendan Smith could do nothing about. Smith had
earlier produced two excellent saves as Castlerea pushed on to seal the game.
Overall it has been an incredible season for the team. Winning the league certainly the highlight of a special few months. Now the focus will be on
the Premier Division and the team will be already concentrating on their preparations for that.
The players that played in both games were: Derek Miskill, DJ Kelly, Brendan Smith, Frank Conneely, Anthony Comer, Shane Mannion, Barry Curtin,
Keith Cunniffe, William Comer, Ciaran Trautt, Robert Molloy, David Keegan, Sean Kenny, Paul Dolan, Sean Molloy, Damien Miskill, Tomas Burke and Keith
Davis.
*Thank You*
The First Team and management would like to thank everyone who has supported the team all season. Our sponsors, those who came to games, the

Ballagahderreen 5/5/2012
Glen Celtic 1 Ballaghaderreen 3
Ballaghaderreen produced the near perfect performance when accounting for Glen Celtic in the Quarter Final of the Divisional Cup. Ironically it came just five days after succumbing tamely to Ballinasloe in the Roscommon cup.
Ballagh struck early with a goal of the season contender, Gavin Conways long throw was magnificently volleyed into the top corner by centre half Ian Towey. Further chances were being created with the industrious Gavin Conway striking a post and Danny Browne crashed a shot of the crossbar, Phillip Rogers also sent a bullet header just over the bar but all the good work seemed in vain when totally against the run of play Glen equalised with a scrambled goal. Ballagh kept pressing though and were rewarded five minutes before the break when stand in Captain Shane Towey headed home a delightful Stephen Foley Cross.
The second half was more even but Ballagh were still creating the better chances, for the third time in the game the woodwork came to Glens rescue when Stephen Foley rattled the crossbar, Seamus Dooney who was having the game of his life was creating havoc down the right wing, he was eagerly assisted by the midfield duo of Sean Fleming and Danny Browne. Up front Gavin Conway and Shane Towey were combining brilliantly and a strong back four with a good mixture of youth and experience were holding firm.
The third and insurance goal arrived five minutes from the end when the Glen keeper failed to hold onto a Danny Browne free kick and the alert Josh Gallagher pounced to score his second of the season.
Ahascragh provide the opposition in the semi final which is fixed for next Friday in the Community Park at 7.45.
Squad: Liam Hayes, Steven Moriarty, Phillip Rogers, Ian Towey, Josh Gallagher, Seamus Dooney, Danny Browne, Sean Fleming, Stephen Foley, Shane Towey, Gavin Conway, Leon Sinnott, Michael Malone, Brendan McGreal, David Finn, Pat Browne, James Regan.
Ballaghaderreen FC wish captain Darragh Hunt a speedy and successful recovery from the knee injury received in the Ballinasloe game.

Cloonfad United 29/4/2012
Cloonfad and Shiven Rovers me twice over the past week. First up on Thursday night was a Premier Division Cup quarter final fixture which was settled by a brilliant David Keaveney goal two minutes from time. Andy Glennon had given Cloonfad an early lead from the penalty spot but Shiven equalised before half time. Glennon missed a penalty in the second half but it wasn't a miss that Cloonfad were left to rue.
On Sunday Shiven were the winning side when they claimed a 1-0 win in the Roscommon Cup in a game that was ruined by the strong wind. Shane O' Malley came close in the first half but it was scoreless at the break. The only goal of the game came on 65 minutes and the closest Cloonfad came to equalising was from an Andy Glennon free kick which the Shiven keeper saved brilliantly.
The U-14s beat Roscommon 'B' in the Cup on a 4-1 scoreline. Cian Ruane scored a hatrick and Donal Kirrane scored his first ever goal for the Cloonfad. The U-12s also faced Roscommon 'B' and were unlucky to lose 2-1. Darragh Heneghan scored Cloonfad's goal.

Cloonfad United 20/4/2012
The 'B' Team were extremely disappointed to lose the Division 3 Title Play-Off on Sunday. Their opponents Skyvalley Rovers 'B' started better and they went in front after 11 minutes. Cloonfad found it difficult to make any breakthrough in the game but they leveled the contest when Daryl Geraghty's free kick was met by David Birmingham on 63 minutes. However a lapse in concentration allowed Skyvalley to retake the lead almost immediately. Cloonfad tried hard to force the game into extra time but when Jack Swannicks shot hit the post with 5 minutes to go it proved to be their last chance of the game. Thanks to managers Dave Foley and Ger Fagan and players for all their work throughout the season.
The First Team ended their league campaign on Saturday night with a defeat again to Skyvalley Rovers. Declan Costello got Cloonfad's only goal in a very competitive game. This week the First Team take on Shiven Rovers twice in both the Premier Division Cup and Roscommon Cup. Times and dates to be confirmed.
On Saturday the U-12s had their first win of the season with a 3-1 win over Castlrea Celtic. Conor Flynn with 2 and Patrick Keadin got the goals.
The U-16s were beaten 4-1 by Ballymoe in the first round of the Cup. Robert Naughton got Cloonfad's goal.
Ballaghaderreen 20/4/2012
Ballaghaderreen FC 1 Ballymoe FC 0
Ballaghaderreen gained promotion to the premier division of the Roscommon & District league for the first time following a hard earned 1-0 win against Ballymoe. Stephen Foley scored the all important goal after 16 minutes when he bundled the ball home during a goal mouth scramble, it may not have been the prettiest of goals but priceless nonetheless.
It is a great achievement by the team who have now been promoted three times in the last four seasons having re-entered the League in 2008 following a lengthy absence.
The game itself was a tense affair with defences largely on top although Ballagh can thank keeper Liam Hayes for making two splendid saves in the second half. Stephen Foley, Darragh Hunt and Danny Browne had chances to make the game safe but these went a begging.
Ballagh don't have long to wait to see what its like to be playing against the top teams as they travel to Ballinasloe next Sunday to take them on in the Roscommon cup. It is a huge task for the team as Ballinasloe have been the top team in the league for years.
The squad on duty on the historic promotion night was Liam Hayes, David Finn, Ian Towey, Philip Rogers, Josh Gallagher, Seamus Dooney, Sean Fleming, Darragh Hunt, Stephen Foley, Danny Browne, Shane Towey, Gavin Conway, Brendan McGreal, Michael malone and James Regan.
The annual Vincent Lowry memorial cup took place the following day with a match between Ballaghaderreen and Vinnies work colleagues from the RSA in Ballina. The RSA won the cup for the first time after a thrilling game on a 3-2 scoreline. John Barry and Liam Hayes scored two screamers for Ballagh. An enjoyable presentation was held later in the Fiddlers Elbow and the club would like to thank James Tully and his staff for their help.

Cloonfad United 15/4/2012
The U-14s great run in the Connaught Shield came to an end at the semi-final stage on Sunday last when they were beaten at home by Ballyboro F.C. The visitors were the better side throughout but Cloonfad came within an inch of bringing the game to extra time. Early in the second half Ballyboro raced in a two goal lead and with five minutes left Cian Ruane pulled one back for Cloonfad. In the first minute of injury time Sean Ruane's strike looked certain to enter the net but a Ballyboro defender cleared it off the line. Ballyboro added a third with the last play of the game.
The first team were also beaten in the Premier Division oin Saturday night in a very entertaining game with Roscommon Town. After five minutes Ger Fagan was taken down inside the penalty area but he missed the spot kick. Roscommon subsequently took the lead with a brilliant strike from Conor Devaney but Cloonfad were unlucky not to be level after a few minutes when Fagan's effort hit the post. On 36 minutes John Burke set up Fagan to level the scores at half time. Early in the second half another wonderful goal from Devaney put Roscommon ahead again and although Cloonfad tried hard to get back in the game the visitors sealed the win when O'Gara headed home a corner kick.

Glen Celtic 8/4/2012
First Team
Sunday the 8th of April 2012 will forever be etched in the history of Glen Celtic FC when they defeated Rahara Rovers 3-0 to clinch the Division one title in Rahara. In what was a consumate team performance, Celtic produced some outstanding football to clinch the title.
Celtic got the dream start after just two minutes when a Robert Molloy free kick was headed home by William Comer. Rahara threatened at times but did not convert and Celtic went in 1-0 leaders at half time. Helped in no small part by the outstanding defending of Shane Mannion and Anthony Comer with Keith Cunniffe and Frank Conneely standing firm against any Rahara attack.
Following the half time break Celtic knew that they had one hand on the league title but concentration would now be key and midfield started to control the game with Ciaran Trautt playing the captain's part with Robert Molloy, William Comer and Sean Kenny taking control. Up front, David Keegan ploughed on with Sean Molloy inspirational beside him. The second goal came after the 28th minute of the second half. Keegan taken down in the area. Keegan dusted himself down to convert and send the large Celtic support into celebration.
With the game almost over and the Celtic support celebrating, Sean Kenny scored the third to seal the victory and the title for Glen Celtic.
The celebrations started with the team visiting Glinsk and were greeted by bonfires on their way from Rahara. The team and management would like to thank everyone for coming to the game and for their congratulations and to all who had bonfires lit on the way back. It is very much appreciated.

First Team
The first team moved one step closer to the league title with a 4-1 win over Ahascragh in Ahascragh. Following a tight opening period Celtic opened the scoring when a Ciaran Trautt free kick was headed home by William Comer.
Ahascragh played some good football and could have equalised were it not for some outstanding goalkeeping by Derek Miskill who produced some brilliant saves. After the restart Celtic made it 2-0 when David Keegan beat the offside trap to round the keeper.
Ahascragh hit back with a penalty to make it 2-1 but Celtic lifted their game and two further Keegan goals gave Celtic the win and promotion to the Premier Division.
This was a great performance with all players and subs all playing their part. David Keegan's hat trick showed just how talented this 19 year old has been all season and surely must be considered for the Oscar Traynor starting team next season.

Cloonfad United 18/3/2012
Both teams were in action on St. Patrick's Day. The First Team travelled to the League grounds in Lecarrow minus a few regulars and were delighted to steal a point in a 3 all draw versus Roscommon Town. Cloonfad were all at sea in the first half and found themselves 3-1 down at the break with Shane O Malley scoring our goal. The town side had numerous opportunities to put the game beyond Cloonfad's reach but wasted their chances. With 3 minutes remaining Ryan Merchant pulled one back and with the game deep in injury time David Keaveney scored a great goal to give Cloonfad another Premier Division point.
A much weakened 'B' Team made their exit from the Roscommon Cup when they were beaten 5-0 away to Shiven Rovers 'B'.
Only one fixture next weekend when Premier Division leaders and Champions Ballinasloe Town come visit Cloonfad on Sunday for a 2p.m. kick off.

Cloonfad United 11/3/2012
An understrenght first team were made to pay for their mistakes in kilkerrin when they went down 3-2. Cloonfad found themselves behind after only 7 mins when they conceded a penaly. John Burke should have levelled matters soon after from a well delivered Andy glennon cornor kick but he made amends on 20 mins when he made it 1-1 from close range. The home side went in front 5 mins later when a defletced free kick found a way past Sean Jennings.Ryan Merchant leveled the contest on 67 mins when he finished a fine move.Cloonfad looked the more likely to go on and win the game from that point but a needless back pass from a cloonfad player was intercepted and finished to the net. With 2 mins left to play cloonfad were awarded a penalty but the normally relieable David Keaveney struck his attempt at the keeper.
The B team are through to next round of the division 3 cup when Ballinasloe C failed to field.

First TeamThe First Team overcame Dunmore on Sunday last in a tough leagueencounter 2-0. Following a tough first half where Celtic had severalchances the score remained at 0-0 but credit must go to the home sidethat could have sneaked a goal only for the smart goalkeeping of DerekMiskill. On the restart Celtic lifted their game and opened thescoring after 20 minutes when David Keegan latched on to a Sean Molloycross to open the scoring. Ten minutes later it was 2-0 when Keeganreturned the favour to cross to Molloy who headed home. Dunmore nevergave up and created several chances but the Celtic defence held firmand at the end the win was well deserved. There were some good performances throughout the team but Dunmoreplayed very well and this win was hard earned. Cloonfad United 4/3/2012
It was a good weekend for the club on the playing field. Pride of Place goes to our U-14 side who defeated Mervue Utd 3-0 in the Connaught Shield. Cloonfad were awarded a penalty after 5 minutes and keeper Liam Cregg cooly dispatched the ball to the net. Just before half time the Galway side almost levelled the game but Pierce Kirrane did well to clear the ball off the line. With a big breeze behind them in the second half Cloonfad dominated the play. It was 2-0 on 58 minutes when Evan Ronane's freekick was met by Cian Ruane who scored from close range. In the last minute Dylan Ruane was fouled inside the penalty area and Cregg came from his goal again to end the contest. Cloonfad are now through to the semi final in 3/4 weeks time.
The First team continue to go along nicely. On Friday night they beat Moore United 3-2. Despite being reduced to ten men on 35 minutes David Keaveney scored a great goal to give Cloonfad a half time lead. Moore levelled the game on 67 minutes but all the excitement was saved for the last 15 minutes. Frank Ronane' s shot was handled on the goal line by a Moore defender who was subsequently sent off and Keaveney scored the resulting penalty. Moore equalised with 3 minutes to go but Cloonfad had the winning shot near full time. Kevin Shannon's long throw into the penalty area broke to Declan Costello and he finished to the net to give Cloonfad a valuable win.
The 'B' Team slipped up away to Foghenagh on Sunday. Jack Swannick scored after 12 minutes to give Cloonfad a 1-0 lead at half time. However two costly mistakes meant Cloonfad were 2-1 down with 2 minutes to play. Luckily a fine strike from Kevin Byrne won a point for Cloonfad who must now win their last game to have hope at winning the Division 3 title.
On Friday night the 'B' Team are at home to Ballinasloe 'C' in the Division 3 Cup while on Sunday Cloonfad make the short journey to Kilkerrin for a Premier Division clash.

First Team
The First Team are back in action on Sunday next in the league when they face Dunmore in Dunmore at 2pm. With the league delicately poised every point is vital and good support will be very important as we go into the final games in the league. The win over St Johns has again put the team in contention but with nothing separating the three teams at the top every game will be like a cup final. If you can get to Dunmore on Sunday next please do.
Hard Luck
The Club would like to acknowledge the work of the Oscar Traynor Cup team in getting to the semi-final of the competition and while defeat was their lot against a very good Kerry League side last Sunday, it is still an incredible achievement and congratulations to Henry, Peter and the squad including our own David Keegan who has done the club proud. Cloonfad United 19/2/2012
A wonderful save from Padraig Miskell in the last minute of the game gave'B' Teams Division 3 title hopes a huge boost. Cloonfad were defending a 1-0 lead thanks to a 52nd minute headed goal from David Birmingham when a fine left footed shot from a Ballymoe 'B' player looked certain to enter the net but Miskell got down with a terrific one handed save. They now lead the table by two points from Skyvalley 'B' who have a game in hand.
On Sunday the first team hosted Lisnamult Celtic in a Premier Division encounter. Cloonfad were very slow to get going and the visitors could have been two or three goals to the good before they eventually took the lead on 22minutes after a mistake in the Cloonfad mid-field. Cloonfad came more into the game after that and David Keaveney on two occasions and Ryan Merchant both worked good openings for themselves but their efforts didnt test the keeper. After the break both teams played attacking football in search of goals. Just when it looked like to be a frustrating day for Cloonfad they were rewarded with a point in the 88th minute. From a free kick the ball broke to Declan Costello and his shot hit the crossbar and rebounded to Paddy Flatley who had a simple task to finish to the net. Best for Cloonfad were Costello, Shane O Malley, Ryan Merchant and Andy Glennon. A minute silence was observed before each game in memory of the late Sarah Regan. Th club would like to extend its deepest sympathies to Sarah's family at this sad time.
No games next weekend. Best of luck to all involved on the Roscommon Oscar Traynor side in the semi final.
Glen Celtic 12/2/2012
First Team
The First Team’s unbeaten run in the league came to an end on Sunday against a very impressive Ballymoe in Ballymoe. The home side winning 3-0. From the start it was clear that the home side were hungry and it showed while Glen Celtic simply could not create any chances against a solid back four.
While this may be our first defeat of the league, it must be remembered that the title and promotion is very much in our hands and all players will be making that extra effort as we start the run in to the end of the season. Also a special word of thanks to everyone who took the time out to come to the game in Ballymoe. It is appreciated and next Sunday we will be hoping that as many as possible can come to our final home game of the league when we take on St Johns in Glenamaddy. This is a very important game for the team with a win now vital if we are to keep our grip at the top of the table.
The team was: Derek Miskill, Damien Miskill, Anthony Comer, Shane Mannion, Frank Connelly, Sean Kenny, William Comer, Michael Geraghty, Ciaran Trautt, Robert Molloy and David Keegan. Subs Cathal Dowd for Damien Miskill, Sean Molloy for Comer and Keith Cunniffe for Comer.

CLOONFAD UNITED 5/2/2012
The 'B' Team travelled to Ballinasloe on Sunday morning knowing a win was all that would keep them in the Division 3 Title Race. Cloonfad started the game brightly and took the lead on 25mins following a good move involving John Noone and Padraig Miskell which resulted in Jack Swannick sweeping the ball to the net. The home side came close on two occassions to levelling the game at the break. Swannick had Cloonfad's best effort in the second half but for most periods the home side dominated the play. On a few occassions the Cloonfad goal led a charmed life. However Cloonfad held out to win and now face another must win game to Ballymoe 'B' on Sunday.
Team: S. Jennings, D. Mullarkey, D. Geraghty, D. Birmingham, J. Noone, K. Byrne, K. McGee, P.J. Fleming, J. Swannick, P. Miskell and K. Shannon. Subs: E. Burke, D. Staunton, P. Foley and D. Conneely.

Cloonfad United 29/1/2012
A classy Westport United side were too good for a brave Cloonfad in a 4th Round Connaught Cup Tie played in front of a huge crowd in Cloonfad last Sunday. Cloonfad were more than a match for their opponents in the first half and the sides went in level at the break thanks to David Keaveney who levelled the game with a fine finish on 38 minutes. However in the second half, the visitors showed what a good side they are by completley dominating the possession. The game turned on 66 minutes when Westport scored two goals within 60 seconds of each other. Cloonfad keeper, Graham Glavey made a great save to tip a header on to the crossbar but a Westport player finished a rebound to the net. Straight from the tip off the away side attacked again and a cross was put into his own net by Shane O'Malley. Cloonfad tried to force their way back into the game but couldn't make any headway into a strong Westport defence. Cloonfad can be proud of their performance against one the strongest sides in Connaught and particularly Declan Costello, Sean McGuire and Shane O' Malley who excelled again for Cloonfad. Thanks to all the supporters who attended the game and to all who helped getting the grounds and club house ready for Sundays match. Thanks in particular to the Fagan family for all their help.
The first team have no game next weekend while the 'B' team are away to Ballinasloe 'C' on Sunday at 11a.m.
Thanks to Margaret Keane and staff for providing refreshments after the game.

Ballymoe v Glen Celtic
This coming Sunday sees the first team involved in one of the most important games they have played all season as they travel to Ballymoe to take on the home side. This plans to be an exciting affair with both teams on the verge of promotion. These sides met on the first weekend of the season in Glenamaddy in a game that finished 2-2 so there is no doubt that it will be close.
As this game is so important the club are asking for everyone who supports the club to come out on Sunday and support the lads. Kick off in Ballymoe is at 2pm.

CLOONFAD UNITED 22/1/2012
The 'B' Team remain in the hunt for the Division 3 after a comfortable 3-0 victory away to Lisnamult Celtic 'B'. Sean Kearney opened the scoring on 19 minutes after been set up by P.J. Fleming. Soon after Fleming doubled Cloonfad's advantage when he scored from close range. In the second half both Kevin Shannon and John Noone went close to scoring before Paul Foley wrapped up the game with Cloonfads third goal. The 'B' Team are at home next Friday to Ballymoe 'B' while the big name next weekend sees the visit of Westport United to Cloonfad for a fourth round Connaught Cup clash. Westport won the FAI Junior Cup a few years back and are one of the favourites to win this years Connaught Cup. However Cloonfad have been playing well of late and no doubt they will give Westport a stern test. Please support. Kick-off: 2p.m.
BALLYMOE F.C 16/1/2012
The senior side collected 3 more points in the Killeen Sports Ground Division 1 with a home victory over St. Johns Athletic. The game finished with a 2 - 0 win for Ballymoe with Thomas Mockler and Padraic Joyce scoring second half goals. A frustrating afternoon looked on the cards with the St. Johns goalkeeper pulling off some fine saves after numerous Ballymoe attacks, but the deadlock was broken with a fine left footed finish from Mockler midway through the second half. Ten minutes later Joyce made sure of the result.
The B team also had a great result, defeating CP Ajax 3 - 2 in Tarmon. Two goals in the last fifteen minutes brought Ballymoe back from 2-1 down to claim an excellent victory. Michael Jury, Adrian Collins and Enda O’Rourke scored the goals for Ballymoe. Training for both sides continues as normal during the week.
The club would like to extend congratulations to the first team manager Derek Ward and his wife Fiona on the recent birth of their baby boy Senan.

CLOONFAD UNITED 15/1/2012
Cloonfad United are through to the fourth round of the Connaught Junior Cup after an exciting 1-0 victory over Galway visitors Renmore. Cloonfad dominated the game for most parts but had to rely on a David Keaveney goal on 33 minutes to see them through. Kevin Byrnes effort hit the crossbar and rebounded to Keaveney on the edge of the penalty area who then beat two defenders to shoot to the top of the Renmore net. Sean McGuire narrowly missed a great chance to put Cloonfad further ahead at the break. Cloonfad completley dominated the second half but chance after chance were spurned as the homeside looked to make the game safe. Ger Fagan had a wonderful effort which hit the crossbar and Ryan Merchant went close on a couple of occassions. However with Declan Costello and Shane O Malley outstanding in the Cloonfad defence which never looked like conceding they held out to secure a place in the fourth round.
The first team have no game next weekend while the B-Team are away to Lisnamult B on Sunday at 2p.m.
GLEN CELTIC 19/12/2011
First Team
The first team faced Rahara on Sunday last and were fortunate to come away with a 3-2 win.
Conditions were near perfect despite the inclement weather over the previous few days and Celtic opened the scoring after just twenty seconds when Keith Cunniffe headed home from close range. It was 2-0 a few minutes later when Sean Molloy found the net and it looked as if Celtic would win comfortably. However Rahara showed great spirit and pulled a goal back from the penalty spot before half time and could have even got a second were it not for a brilliant one handed save by Derek Miskill.
On the restart Molloy went close but it would be Rahara who would score next when a cross was headed home with the Celtic defence caught cold. The game certainly went up a notch there after and no one was shirking from the tackles as both teams went in search of a winner. Rahara went close with a rasping shot that rattled the crossbar and the Rahara keeper made a good save from Ciaran Trautt’s dipping effort. With 92 minutes played Trautt got on the end of a pass and rounded the Rahara backs before finding the net leading to wild celebrations among the players. It would be the final act in a dramatic game and now puts the first team second behind Ballaghaderreen with two games in hand.
Team: Derek Miskill, Damien Miskill, Frank Conneely, Anthony Comer, Shane Mannion, Robert Molloy, William Comer, Michael Geraghty, Sean Molloy, David Keegan, Keith Cunniffe. Subs: Ciaran Trautt for Mannion, Cathal Dowd for Geraghty, Brendan Smith and Michael Burke.
The team are in action again on Thursday night next when we play Ahascragh in our last game of 2011. Kick off is 7.30 in Glenamaddy and it would be great to see as many as possible turn out for what is now an important game as a win would close the gap on the leaders as we go into the second half of the season.
St Stephen’s Day
On St Stephen’s day the club will be hosting a fundraising tournament at the pitch in aid of Ability West. All those who are involved with the club and those who play in the Astro Leagues are invited to come along and play and make some money for a very deserving charity. The league table at the moment sees Garrafrauns clear in front of Clonberne with Kilkerrin and Glinsk in third and fourth.
The opening games in round three will take place in the New Year.
In the Under 30’s league freezing temperatures did not deter the great turnout and there were three great games. In the opening game the Unbelievables beat Divillys 2-1. Glinsk drew 1-1 with Iraqistan and Williamstown beat Glen United 5-1. Glinsk still top the table just a point of Iraqistan with Williamstown and the Unbelievables in joint third.

The second round of fixtures in the Astro League is well and truly underway and last weekend there certainly plenty of action in the over 30’s League to talk about. Glinsk saw their outright second place disappear from them with defeat to Kilkerrin while Garrafrauns and Clonberne drew 0-0. Ballymoe beat Glen Celtic 1-0. The League table has an interesting look to it. Garrafrauns still top the table with Kilkerrin and Glinsk four points back in second place. Clonberne lie in fourth.
In the Under 30’s League, the Unbelievables beat Williamstown 1-0 while Roscommon beat Glen United by the same score. The league table now sees the Unbelievables on top, a point clear of Divillys and Glinsk with Roscommon just two points off the top of the table.

CLOONFAD UNITED 27/11/2011
Cloonfad's good run in the F.A.I. Junior Cup came to an end on Sunday when they met a Ballinasloe side who had too much fire power for them. Cloonfad started the game well and Ryan Merchant almost scored in the first minute. Ballinasloe took the lead on 27 minutes when Liam Lynch scored with an unstoppable shot. Two quick goals before half time put the away side in a commanding position. Merchant pulled one back early in the second half and he almost got another a few minutes later but narrowly missed Ger Fagan's cross. Fagan then hit the crossbar with a wonderful effort. With 20 minutes to go it was all over when Declan Costello was unfortunate to put the ball in to his own net. Ballinasloe scored again near the end to run out 5-1 winners. The scoreline is a bit harsh on this young Cloonfad side who gave their all throughout the 90 minutes. Thanks to all the suppporters who turned out in large numbers for their team and we wish Nigel Prendergast a speedy recovery who picked up a bad injury during the game.
The 'B' Team were denied a great win away to Skyvalley after a controversial last minute equalizer meant the game finshed 1-1. Kevin Shannon had given Cloonfad a first half lead and that looked to be enough to win the three points until a late goal mouth scramble in which the referee deemed the ball across the line to the astonishment of Cloonfad players and management.
The first team have no game this week while the 'B' Team are away to Lisnamult Celtic 'B' at 11a.m on Sunday.
BALLAGHADERREEN 22/11/2011
Moylough 79 FC 1 Ballaghaderreen FC 5
An under strength Ballaghaderreen side with a fair sprinkling of youth and a good pinch of experience came up with the right formula when accounting for an unlucky Moylough side in a Roscommon + District League Division 1 match played in Moylough.
Ballagh took the lead midway through the first half when the Moylough keeper failed to hold onto a Danny Browne shot and Shane Towey was first to react to the loose ball but Moylough restored parity just before the break despite the best efforts of goalie Liam Hayes. Sean Fleming put Ballagh in front again early in the new half after a Gavin Conway free kick wasn't fully cleared. Shane Towey made up for an earlier miss when he whipped home a Danny Browne cross for the best goal of the game. Sean Fleming got his second following good work by Michael Malone and Towey secured his second hat-trick in successive matches when he calmly rounded the keeper and rolled the ball into the empty net.
It was a very workman like performance by the Ballagh side where goalie Liam Hayes was again in great form, full backs Pat Browne and Steven Moriarty despite a fair contrast in age were equally adept at their job while the centre half pairing of Ian Towey and Denis Bergin did brilliantly against a strong Moylough attack force. Gavin Conway and Danny Browne in the midfield engine room showed some classy touches and were a constant threat. Wingers Josh Gallagher and Sean Fleming put in a tough ninety minute shift with Fleming being rewarded with his two goals. Up front the goal machine that is Shane Towey again came up trumps while partner Michael Malone battled hard and was unlucky not to have scored. Lone substitute James Regan who usually plays in goals made his first outfield appearance for the club and can be happy with his contribution.
Squad: Liam Hayes, Pat Browne, Denis Bergin, Ian Towey, Steven Moriarty, Sean Fleming, Gavin Conway, Danny Browne, Josh Gallagher, Shane Towey, Michael Malone, James Regan.

Under 18’s win Divisional Cup
Under 18 First Division cup final.
Glen Celtic 3 CP Ajax 0
Following wins over Ballaghaderreen, Shiven Rovers and Moore, The Under 18 team qualified for the final of the Divisional Under 18 cup with CP Ajax the opponents. The county grounds in Lecarrow was the venue for the final and the lads did not disappoint, winning 3-0 and sparking great scenes of celebration throughout the club
Ajax started the brighter for the first 10 to 15 minutes but could not create any chances as Antony Comer, who has impressed all season and since made the breakthrough into the first team, Peter Lohan and the two full backs Conor Ryan and Paddy Kelly were in no mood to let anything pass. With this period of pressure soaked up the centre midfield pair of Keith Davis and Ross Connolly started to get a grip which once taken they never let go of.
Soon, the two wide men of Nigel Fahy and Fergal Dowd came more and more into the game and on the big Lecarrow pitch it was the wingers on both teams who had most work to do covering huge areas.
Keith Davis scored a from a great strike and this seemed to awaken our forwards of Ben Conneally and Michael Fox who went on to terrorise the CP backline with phenomenal touch and speed.
One nil was the score at half time and it was still anyone’s game. At half time the management team of Gerry Davis, Damien Miskell and Bob Molloy assured the lads that they were playing the right brand of football to win but a small bit more application and work rate would be needed to break down a CP team who themselves were playing very good football.
Just 22 seconds into the second half, Glen Celtic got the perfect restart to the second half with Ben Conneally scoring within just 22 seconds. CP Ajax however kept coming at us and Captain Brendan Smith had to get down smartly to his right corner to deny CP a lifeline. It is a known fact in the club that one of the great Glen managers, Mick Heneghan, always hated a two goal lead and for the next 15 or so minutes it dawned on the management why.
CP Ajax kept coming at us and despite the fact that we soaked this pressure, and, were getting good ball forward ourselves, we knew one back for CP would make for a very uncomfortable time.
However one of the players to shine all season Ross Connolly picked up a ball in our half and beat 2 CP midfielders before laying the ball off to Nigel Fahy whose return ball to Ross split the CP defence and Ross applied a great finish.
Eoin Keady, Mark Conneally and Padraig Dillon all came on in the second half with Eoin steadying things having replaced one of the over worked wingers. Then Mark and Padraig created a new problem for the CP backline with their intricate and skilful play almost resulting in a Padraig Dillon special late one, but it was not to be.
The ever present Liam Burke was unlucky not to get his run as only 3 subs can be played. So it was that we ran out 3-0 winners. This was a very good game of football between two good footballing teams and indeed the team of officials who had no small part to play in allowing the game flow with good advantage being played, but the admonition always came when needed, great to see one of our young refs get a final.
So the victorious cavalcade left Lecarrow and made its way home to bonfires in Glinsk and Knockmascahill before a victory lap of the four roads. Special thanks to Michael Ryan of Glen car sales who presented a set of gear bags to the team before the game. Also to Caroline Mannion who provided to food to the team and followers on our arrival home.
First Team
Our first team bowed out of the Connacht cup to Calry Bohs.
Due to various commitments and a couple of injuries we travelled with the bare 11 with the managers togging but praying to be left running the line from the outside.
The score line of 3-0 flattered the home side slightly but as our lads tired the Calry subs when introduced in the second half gave them the impetus needed to break through.
Next Friday night the team are at home to Dunmore is a game of great importance to our season, to get our league campaign back running. Currently the team are still unbeaten but a win is vital to keep the pressure on the leaders. Kick off is 8pm and a good crowd would be greatly appreciated.
The team that took on Calry Bohs were: DJ Kelly, Damien Miskell, Frank Conneally, Bob Molloy, Shane Mannion, "Mickie G" Geraghty, Willie Comer, David Keegan, Ciaran Trautt, Sean Molloy and Brendan Smith.
Well done to our players in Williamstown and Glinsk GAA teams over the past two weeks, Williamstown won the 2b league final and the under 21 shield in the last two weeks.
Glinsk were winning the Division 3B league final, helped by Peter Lohan and Fergal Dowd who had left the under 18 final celebrations and went straight to the final in Clonberne when the game was stopped with only a few minutes left to play due to fog.
CLOONFAD UNITED 20/11/2011
Cloonfad moved up another place in the Premier Division Table after a 3-0 victory away to Lisnamult Celtic. The home side did not make the most of their opportunities in the first half at the game remained scoreless at half time. Cloonfad took the lead on 61 minutes. Andy Glennon's free kick found Kevein Byrne who set up Paddy Flatley to score with a low shot to the corner of the net. Lisnamult were almost level within 5 minutes but Glennon made a fantastic last ditch tackle to deny a certain goal. Lisnamult were then reduced to ten men and the game opened up from that point on. John Burke and Ger Fagan had great chances to put Cloonfad 2-0 up while at the other end Padraic Miskell made a fine safe to keep the away side ahead. With five minutes remaining Cloonfad made the game safe. Ryan Merchant was fouled inside the box and Fagan scored the resulting penalty. Fagan got his second goal a couple of minutes later as the home side lost their discipline and finished with eight players.
Team: P. Miskell, D. Byrne, N. Prendergast, D. Costello, S. O Malley, K. Byrne, P. Flatley, J. Swannick, J. Fagan, A. Glennon and R. Merchant. Subs: J. Burke and D. O Malley.

LOUGHGLYNN UNITED 13/11/2011
A depleted Loughglynn team were beaten 3-0 by Strokestown in an early kick off at Loughglynn on sunday. There was nothing between the two teams throughout and it was only when Loughglynn were forced to play with 10 men that Strokestown managed two late goals. The home side lost two players through injury and only had one sub on the day. Stokestown led 1-0 at half time but there were chances for both teams in the first half. Loughglynn were playing some decent football in the second half until the injuries disrupted things and Strokestown added two goals in the remaining 15mins. Loughglynn are away to Ballinagare next Sunday at 2pm.

Congratulations to the Roscommon Oscar Traynor Cup side that defeated The Mayo League last Sunday 2-0. Glen Celtic’s David Keegan was part of the squad and came on midway through the first half for Sam Durkin. Keegan, who has had an excellent season so far for the first team, had an excellent game was unlucky not to be among the goals. Well done to Henry, Peter and the panel. Hopefully Mayo can now do them a favour and beat Sligo in the final group game of the campaign.

Cloonfad made the long journey to Moore on Saturday night and came away with a precious three points. Two goals early in the first half from Ger Fagan and Mark Waldron secured the win. GLEN CELTIC 6/11/2011
First Team
The First Team’s involvement in the FAI Junior Cup came to an end on Friday night after a thoroughly entertaining game at Glenamaddy. Missing several regulars the team came from an almost insurmountable 4-1 down to almost snatch extra time but in the end had to give second best to Castlerea Celtic 4-3.
Castlerea got off to the perfect start and were 3-0 up by the half hour mark before Glen Celtic pulled one back though Sean Molloy following an excellent pass from David Keegan. However moments later Castlerea extended their lead once more to lead 4-1 at half time.
Most teams at this stage would have closed up shop to keep the score down but incredibly Glen Celtic actually started to play some of the best football they have played this season and David Keegan pulled a goal back early in the second half. The team were now playing with purpose and pride in the jersey and simply dominated the second 45’. They could have even had a third goal midway through the half but it was disallowed for an infringement in the area.
With ten minutes remaining the third goal did come courtesy of a David Keegan free kick from outside the area. Try as they might the equaliser would not come and It is Castlerea Celtic who march on to the 4th round while for Glen Celtic our next game is in two weeks in the Connacht Cup against Calry Bohs from Sligo.
While there was obvious disappointment in the dressing room following the game, the players can take great pride from their second half performance where each and everyone of the squad played their part. If they keep that passion up then they will be a force to be reckoned with for the rest of the season.
Glen Celtic: DJ Kelly, Damien Miskill, Frank Conneely, Anthony Comer, Keith Cunniffe, Cathal Dowd, Kieran Trautt, Robert Molloy, William Comer, David Keegan, Sean Molloy, Simon Stachurski, Nigel Fahy, Niall Gannon, Pat Connealy, Luke Connealy.
Thanks also to all who came to support the team on a bitterly cold night, it is greatly appreciated.
BALLAGHADERREEN 6/11/2011
Ballaghaderreen FC 6 Rahara Rovers 0
Ballaghaderreen kept their irrepressible home form intact with another big win at the local Community park when accounting for a previously unbeaten Rahara side. It's now seventeen scored and three conceded in the three home games this season. Hat tricks for frontline duo Shane Towey and Gavin Conway somewhat camouflaged what was a wonderful team performance.
Towey opened the scoring after 10 minutes when he got on the end of skipper Darragh Hunts free kick. Two minutes later Gavin Conway added a second when he brilliantly controlled a long ball out of defence by Ian Towey and finished with aplomb. Conway was again on the score sheet when he headed home a Danny Browne corner kick. Shane Towey finished the first half scoring when he got on the end of a Liam Hayes assist.
The second half was a rather pedestrian affair with Ballagh seemingly content to keep a second successive clean sheet but some astute substitutions seem to kick start them again. Dave Finn, who was only just introduced tried to rein act his goal of the season strike against the same opposition from last year but this time his effort failed to find the target. Gavin Conways super strike that hit the underside of the crossbar was tapped in by the vigilant Shane Towey for his hat trick and Conway got his from the penalty spot ten minutes before the end.
Goalie Liam Hayes will be delighted with a second clean sheet in a row as will a well organised back four. Captain Darragh Hunt was a colossus in midfield while Danny Browne plus wingers Sean Fleming and Stephen Foley supplied most of the ammunition for the on fire Towey-Conway strike partnership.
Squad: Liam Hayes, Josh Gallagher, Ian Towey, Denis Bergin, Steven Moriarty, Stephen Foley, Darragh Hunt, Danny Browne, Sean Fleming, Shane Towey, Gavin Conway, Seamus Dooney, David Finn, John Barry, Pat Browne, James Regan.
Before the game a minutes silence was observed in memory of the late Kieran Tynan who was a school mate and friend of many of the Ballaghaderreen squad who died tragically in Australia.
LOUGHGLYNN UNITED 6/11/2011
Loughglynn United were beaten 2-1 by Premier Division outfit Cloonfad on Friday night. Cloonfad were on top for most of the first half and led one nil at half time.
Within 5mins of the second half they made it 2-0 nil with a well struck volley. Loughglynn then upped their performance and were the better side for the rest of the second half.
Tim Bruen got the goal for United and Loughglynn created several chances before the end and were unlucky not to take the game to extra time.
Loughglynn return to league action next weekend.

The under 14s hosted Colga from Galway in the second round off the Connaught cup and earned a hard fought 1 0 win paddy Kirnan Comming off the bench to score with only seconds left in the match.
Cloonfad faced an uphill task on Sunday last as missing six regulars they faced Champions Ballinasloe Town. It was back to the wall for most of the game but we still ended up on the wrong side of a 4-0 scoreline. Ger Fagan tried hard for Cloonfad upfront on his own against a strong Ballinasloe defence. Others to impress were Danny Flatley, Ryan Merchant and Paddy Flatley.
The 'B' Team hosted Ballinasloe's third side on Saturday night. Mark Waldron gave Cloonfad a twelfth minute lead following a great pass from Kieran McGee. The Home side dominated the rest of the game and chance after chance was wasted and Cloonfad paid the price in the 93rd minute when Ballinasloe got an equaliser from long range.
THe U-13s are through to the next round of the Connaught Shield following a 2-0 win over headford side Moyne Villa. Dylan Ruane got both goals in the second half.

CLOONFAD UNITED 23/10/2011
Cloonfad United recorded a good win over Sligo side Cartron United in the second round of the F.A.I Junior Cup on Sunday last played at a very wet Cloonfad. The visitors took the lead in the 12th minute with a spectacular goal from 30 yards. However their lead only lasted three minutes when a fine move involving John Burke, Ger Fagan and Ryan Merchant resulted in Nigel Prendergast unleashing an unstoppable shot to the corner of the net. The winner came in the 57th minute when Danny Flatley's free kick found the net via the cross bar. Andy Glennon and Ger Fagan had a couple of great chances but they failed to test the keeper. At the other end Darren O Malley had to make a fine save at his near post to prevent an equaliser.
Cloonfad: D.O Malley, D.Byrne, D.Flatley, S.O Malley, D. Costello, N.Prendergast, J.Burke, P.Flatley, F.Ronane, R.Merchant and G.Fagan. Subs: A. Glennon and D. Birmingham.
The 'B' team drew 3 all away on the second game in a row, this time to C.P Ajax in Tarmon. Paddy Costello gave Cloonfad a first half lead but the home side levelled straight after the break. Costello got his second soon after to put Cloonfad ahead again. Ajax came back with two goals to lead 3-2 with five minutes to go but sub David Staunton rescued a point with his first ever goal for Cloonfad.

First Team
The First Team went top of Division One with an outstanding 2-1 win over St Johns in Lecarrow on Sunday morning, Goals from Justin Keaveney and Ciaran Traut giving the visitors an important win away from home in a game that had huge importance for both teams. St Johns got off to a better start with the post and Celtic keeper Derek
Miskell keeping the game at 0-0 for first period. Glen Celtic got more into the game and the effervescent Justin Keaveney opened the scoring with the ultimate natural strikers’ goal/tap in. It proved the line that if you are not there you cannot score. Ciaran Traut, complete with his suit, scored the second, a speculative shot looking to lob the keeper that made it’s way to the top left corner, again Justin as top class strikers do (and young strikers take note) just got in the eye line of the keeper enough for him to lose flight of the shot.St Johns showed why they were in the Premier Division last year and just why they are a big club, coming back at Glen with all guns blazing and they pulled one back. In a hectic closing 20 minutes both teams had chances but in the end, after some excellent defending, Celtic took the win and the vital points.
Glen Celtic Squad: Derek Miskell, Damien Miskell, Keith Davis, Keith Cunniffe, Frank Conneally, David Keegan, Mickey Geraghty, Robert Molloy, Ciaran Traut, Justin Keaveney, Sean Molloy, Cathal Dowd, Anthony Divilly, DJ Kelly and Nigel Fahy.

CLOONFAD UNITED 16/10/2011
A depleted Cloonfad side were outclassed away to Skyvalley Rovers on Sunday last. Cloonfad had a nightmare start and fell behind after only 22 seconds. The home side had the opportunity to add a few more within the next few minutes but the Cloonfad defence managed to hold out under severe pressure. Cloonfad came more in to the game as the half went on and had their best chance on 26 minutes when Danny Flatley's cross was met by Ger Fagan but it went straight to the keeper. In the second half, Skyvalley took complete control and looked like scoring on every attack. With the game only having 10 minutes left and the score still 0 0 it was looking like extra time but that all changed when Roscommon made there first sub with Aaron Langan taking the field an instantly turn the game up side down when with his first touch hammered the ball to the back off the net from a corner, it got even better 2 mins later when Langan chased down a hopefully punt forward and with the bounce disserving the keeper he ran on to the loose ball and bundled in the ball to make it 2 in 2 minutes, Shiven hit back with a late goal but Roscommon held on for the win. The club would like to send its deepest sympathy's to manager Martin King on his resent loss off his brother John "Chippy" King. May he rest in peace.
LOUGHGLYNN UNITED 9/10/2011
Loughglynn continued their good form on Sunday with a 8-1 victory over Manor in Loughglynn. Coming off the back of a great win in Ballinasloe the previous Friday night Loughglynn started well and went one up after a few minutes.
Loughglynn kept good possession in the first half and were four up at the break. Loughglynn didn't let up in the second half and added four more.
Mark O'Brien got four goals, Donal Ward grabbed two with Justin Coleman and Cathal Hitchen getting one each.
Loughglynn are down to play Ahasgragh in the FAI Junior Cup next sunday in Loughglynn.
BALLAGHADERREEN 6/10/2011
Ballaghaderreen came out on top of this seven goal thriller played in the Community Park. Great credit must go to both sides for putting on this football spectacle on what were testing conditions.
Ballagh who have been scoring goals for fun this season opened the scoring after only five minutes when captain Darragh Hunt lashed home from just outside the box but Ballymoe levelled deservedly midway through the half. A second lead goal for the home side arrived a few minutes later when Ballaghs top scorer Gavin Conway got on the end of an in swinging Danny Browne free kick and finished emphatically. In this 'ding dong' affair Ballymoe equalised again just before the break.
The second half very much replicated the first with Ballagh once again taking the lead when Sam Durkin who caused all sorts of problems for the Ballymoe defence burst through from midfield and gave the keeper no chance but for the third time Ballymoe gained parity when danger man Colm Killackey cheekily back heeled a cross into the net for a brilliant goal.
With twenty minutes left on the clock Ballagh took the lead for an incredible fourth time in the most spectacular fashion when Danny Browne found the top corner from thirty five yards out for what was arguably the best goal ever scored in the Community Park. This time Ballagh would hold onto their lead despite some very nervy moments thanks mainly to the brilliant displays of the centre back pairing of Denis Bergin and veteran Brendan McGreal who put in a 'Richard Dunne' like performance with some exceptional blocks.
While a draw in this highly entertaining game would have been a fair result the Ballagh management will be delighted with the result as many times in the past they have come out the wrong side of tight matches and while there is long way to go in the league they have laid a solid foundation for an assault on the title.
Squad: James Regan, Robert Towey, Denis Bergin, Brendan McGreal, Darren O'Brien, Gavin Conway, Darragh Hunt, Danny Browne, Josh Gallagher, Sam Durkin, Shane Towey, John Bergin, Michael Malone, Steven Moriarty.
MOORE UNITED 2/10/2011
Moore United entertained Kilkerrin United in a premier league game in Falty on Saturday night last. The conditions were very poor for football. Moore couldn’t come to terms with a very physical Kilkerrin team in the opening 20 minutes. Kilkerrin scored after 30 minutes with a super strike allowing them to go in one up at half time.
The second half started brightly and Moore were on level terms after 5 minutes when Johnny Conway was upended in the box and Graham Pettit scored from the spot kick. Moore came into the game and Enda Kenny came close with an effort, and Mickey Collins was unlucky not to find the back of the net after 70 minutes. With Pettit and Duffy very strong in defence Moore pressed forward looking for a winner and in the dying minutes Mickey Collins’ effort came off the upright and it wasn’t to be Moore’s day and they had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
Team: Declan Griffin, Ray Griffin, John Duffy, Graham Pettit, D Murray, Brian Mulvey, Enda Kenny, Mickey Collins, Johnny Conway, Mickey Collins, Sean Coughlan, Danny Seery, Danny Grenham, and James Kelly.
Moore’s B team were beat 4-2 in a home clash against Ballinasloe Town B on Friday night last.
They will travel to Skyvalley next Sunday the 9th at 2pm.
The Moore United Lotto was not won on Monday the 19th. The numbers were 1, 4, 15 and 28. There was one match 3 winner receiving €200. Next weeks draw for €5,000 takes place in Millar’s of Ballydangan on Monday the 3rd of October. Tickets are available from usual promoters. It could be you !!
CLOONFAD UNITED 2/10/2011
Dysart F.C 26/9/2011
Dysart senior team had their second win of the season on Sunday afternoon last, at the expense of Moore united in Dysart. Moore dominated the early exchanges and was rewarded for their efforts very early on in the game, with a well taken goal. They could have furthered their lead soon after when they were awarded a free kick in front of goal. The resulting kick was well saved by the Dysart keeper, but the Moore striker was quickest to react to the keepers rebound, but he fired his shot straight at the Dysart goalie. Dysart were under serious pressure at this stage and their cause wasn’t helped, when they lost their goalkeeper through injury in the previously mentioned exchange.
Dysart weathered the storm well and began to find space in the middle of the park which allowed them to shift the ball wide to their wingers Keith Waldron and Paddy Neary. Dysart found success with this and the equaliser wasn’t long coming. A good cross from Michael Donoghue on the right touch line found Niall Corbett free in the box and his header left the Moore keeper with no chance. Moore to their credit took the lead again soon after when they took advantage of Dysart’s inability to clear the ball effectively. Dysart equalised again soon after, another cross from the right wing found James Coyne once again free in the box to head past the Moore goal keeper. However Moore weren’t finished yet, a good counter attack saw them move the ball well up the left wing and a nice pull back led to a nice cool finish by the Moore midfielder. James Coyne equalised once again soon after, a good Niall Corbett run through the Moore defence allowed him the space to give a dainty little cross to James Coyne who struck home from just inside the box for Dysart’s third equaliser. This was to be the last time Dysart fell behind, and what was so far a goal fest continued when a Mark Higgins strike from 25 yards rattled the inside of the Moore post and was helped in by the head of the outstretched Moore keeper. Dysart had finally found some composure after a shaky opening 25 and saw out the remainder of the half comfortably.
Dysart stretched their lead to two early on in the second half after bombarding the Moore goal. Niall Corbett was once again on hand to volley home for the home side after a half clearance. Dysart continued the second half with the majority of chances and possession. However Moore’s never say die attitude was excellent and they pulled the gap back to one nearing the end of the game. Dysart still continued to attack the Moore goal and had the chances to put the game beyond doubt, after a succession of corners and a few goal line clearances. In the end Dysart ran out 5-4 deserved winners.
Scorers for Dysart Niall Corbett 2, James Coyne 2, Mark Higgins 1.
Congratulations:
Congratulations to Dysart U-12’S on beating Moore in the divisional cup final last Tuesday night. Also Dysart would like to congratulate Noel Fallon on making his Debut for Longford Town recently. Noel was an integral part of the Dysart team that won the league and cup double last season. Best of luck for the future.
GLEN CELTIC 26/9/2011
First Team
The Glen Celtic first team qualified for the second round of the Connacht cup with a deserved 1-0 win over Mayo League side Newport Town in Glenamaddy on Sunday afternoon. On what was a miserable day with heavy rain and strong winds Celtic played well in spots and dominated the second half. However, there were many lessons learned also and with an important league game on Friday night next against Dunmore, the team know that they would get punished if they made the same mistakes again.
Conditions were very poor with heavy rain during the first half and while neither side had any chances of note in the opening forty-five minutes, Celtic dealt with their opposition quite well.
In the second half and with the strong wind at their backs, Celtic lifted their game and midway through got the goal that they deserved. David Keegan pouncing on a loose ball to drive it past the Newport goalkeeper.
From there Celtic held on comfortably for the win and a place in the next round of the competition.
Glen Celtic: Derek Miskill, Anthony Divilly, Frank Conneely, Shane Mannion, Keith Cunniffe, Michael Geraghty, Luke Conneely, Robert Molloy, Pat Conneely, Simon Stachurski, David Keegan.
Subs Used: Justin Keaveney for Conneely, Ciaran Traut for Geraghty and Keith Davis for Divilly.
Next up is Dunmore Town in Glenamaddy on Friday night. Kick off is 8pm. All support appreciated.
Under 16
The Under 16 team were desperately unlucky in the Divisional cup final on Thursday night when going down on penalties to Moore United in Lecarrow.
In what was an exciting and dramatic final, Glen Celtic had to come from behind twice and despite dominating extra time, could not make the breakthrough leading to the heartbreak of defeat through a penalty shoot out.
Moore got off to the better start and while Celtic had chances, it was Moore who opened the scoring in the eighth minute. A long ball in was turned into his own net by a Glen Celtic defender. Celtic almost responded immediately when Cathal Hynes had a shot on goal only to see it rise over the crossbar.
Despite chances, it would be Moore who would extend their lead with a second goal on the half hour following a good move through the middle. Most teams would have thrown in the towel at this stage but Celtic showed great character and with two minutes remaining in the half Stephen Fox found Eugene Morgan who fired home from outside the penalty area.
On the restart it was clear that Celtic were coming back into the game but Moore’s midfield was on top form and it would be the twenty minute mark in the second half before Celtic found the equaliser. A long through ball found Hynes who slipped it under the keeper. The ball trickled towards the line and while Moore cleared, the assistant referee gave the goal.
The drama was far from over. A free kick was headed in to give Moore the lead once more with ten minutes remaining. Again, Celtic showed great determination and Michael Fox scored a great goal with five minutes remaining to level matters and set the stage for an exciting last five minutes.
No other goal was forthcoming for the remainder of normal time and extra time and despite their best efforts Glen Celtic had to settle for second best.
The team worked hard throughout with some great individual performances throughout showing that there is great promise and potential in these young players. They are certainly a team to keep an eye on in the future.
Glen Celtic: Cormac Haslam, Conor Ryan, James Burke, Ross Connolly, Daniel Smith, Stephen Fox, Eugene Morgan, Peter Morgan, Cathal Hynes, Michael Fox, Liam Glynn, Seamus Comer, Padraig Dillon, Conor Tully, Liam Burke, James Dillon.

CLOONFAD UNITED 25/9/2011
Cloonfad and Kilkerrin played out a
very entertaining Premeir Division Contest last Saturday night.
Cloonfad started brightly and Ger Fagan finished off a fine passing move
on nine minutes to give Cloonfad the lead. Cloonfad kept the pressure
up for the remainder of the half but could not force the second goal
although Kilkerrin should have scored from a corner kick. Early in the
second half the Kilkerrin keeper made a fantastic stop from David
Keaveney's header and 30 seconds later the teams were level when a long
throw was flicked to the net by Jason Ward. The remainder of the game
was intense and Cloonfad wasted some good attacking opportunities. At
the other end Darren and Shane O Malley; Declan Costello and Ryan
Merchant were outstanding in keeping the Kilkerrin attack at bay.
Next Saturday night Cloonfad are at home again to Shiven Rovers. Kick-Off: 7.30p.m.
The 'B' Team are home to Skyvalley 'B' Team next Sunday at 2p.m.

Division 2 Cup Final by Ballymoe on a 3-1 scoreline. Despite going 1-0
down early on Cloonfad fought back to level at half-time. A Shane
Fagan free kick was met by Liam Connolly who vollyed to the net. Early
in the second half Cloonfad had a goal ruled out for off side and within
a minute Ballymoe had scored to make it a 2-1 scoreline. Ballymoe
added another goal in the last few minutes of play to make the game
safe. Cloonfad can be proud of their efforts against a superior team.
Thanks to Managers Sean Jennings and P.J. Moran and all the parents for
their efforts throughout the season.

MOORE UNITED 25/9/2011
Moore United travelled to Dysart for a premiership game and were unlucky to go down in a 5-4 thriller. Moore starter off the brighter and were one up after 5 minutes of play when James Kelly (S) latched on to a loose ball in the box and scored for Moore. Moore missed a great chance to go further ahead, and within 2 minutes Dysart were level from a bad mistake by the Moore defence. Moore had all the possession and after 25 into the game James Kelly (C) scored to give Moore the lead again. Within 4 minutes Dysart had levelled them game for the second time. Moore continued to press forward, and took the lead again through John Duffy. With 5 minute to go to half time Dysart scored 2 further goals to go in with the half time lead.
The second half Moore started the brighter and a super effort for John Duffy went narrowly wide and with 65 minutes into the game, Dysart got their 5th goal. BALLAGHADERREEN 20/9/2011
Ahascragh United 2 Ballaghaderreen FC 4
Ballaghaderreen made the long trek to Ahascragh and came away with a valuable 3 pts. Aided by a strong breeze in the first half Ballagh had most of the play and when Danny Browne rattled the crossbar from 40yds out from a free kick after 5 minutes it was a sign of things to come. The lead goal came 10 minutes later when young Leon Sinnott showed great athleticism to score from close in with an overhead kick. Centre half Denis Bergin scored his first goal for the club when he lashed in a loose ball that fell kindly to him following a corner. Ahascragh replied with an excellent goal from their left back who deftly chipped Ballagh keeper Ian Towey but just before the break Sam Durkin netted from the penalty spot after he was taken down when through on goals. Aided by the elements in the new half Ahascragh had the bulk of the play and were rewarded with 10 minutes left to play with another well taken goal but the Ballagh nerves were eased when Darragh Hunt buried the ball in the back of the net following great work by strikers Sam Durkin and Shane Towey.
While Ballagh have played better this season the 3 pts garnished was all that mattered and with the side maintaining its 4 goal a game average plus the excellent performances of the four u-18 players Darren O'Brien, Leon Sinnott, Josh Gallagher and Steven Moriarty there were a lot of positives to be taken.
Squad: Ian Towey, Robert Towey, Brendan Mc Greal, Denis Bergin, Darren O'Brien, Josh Gallagher, Darragh hunt, Danny Browne, Leon Sinnott, Sam Durkin, Shane Towey, Steven Moriarty, Pat Browne.
Moore United got their first 3 points of the season with a home win against Roscommon Town. With very blustery conditions Moore United didn’t adapt well and were struggling to come to terms with a very physical Roscommon team, and were lucky to go in half time with no score from either side.
The second half Moore were playing into the breeze and got to grips with this Roscommon team, playing some excellent football. Moore were well on top and created a few chances but failed to score. With 20 minutes to go a lovely sweeping move by Moore United ended up with a penalty kick for Moore and Graham Pettit made no mistake from the penalty spot to give Moore United the lead.
Roscommon pushed forward and Moore broke and failed to kill the game off. In the remaining minutes a super save by Declan Griffin allowed Moore United to hold on and win the game.
A great team performance by a very young Moore side.

Moore B team drew 2-2 with Ballymoe B team on Friday last. Ballymoe went 1 up after 20mins. Moore regrouped and with good football, Danny Serry got on the end of a great cross from Kevin Kenny and volleyed the ball to the back of the net, leaving the score one all at half time.
Moore started strong at the restart and missed a lot of chances to pull away from Ballymoe but a strong Ballymoe kept fighting hard. The second goal came with great work form Moore’s midfield and Danny Serry beat the Ballymoe back line and a one on one with the keeper chipped the ball over the keeper. With 8 mins left in the game, Ballymoe came on strong and took advantage of bad defending and equalised. A hard and fair game, a good result for both teams.
Moore’s B Team will take on Lisnamult next Friday at 8pm in Falty.
Moore’s U12’s will take on Dysart in the Divisional Cup Final on Tuesday at 6.30pm in Lecarrow.

Jack Swannick gave Cloonfad the lead on 54 minutes when he scored from close range following a corner kick. Cloonfad were on the back foot for the rest of the game and were stretched to the limit to keep the Fohenagh attack at bay. In the last minute Swannick scored again to make the game safe for Cloonfad.
Next weekend the first team are back in action when they face Kilkerrin United in the Premier Division,
BALLAGHADERREEN FC 16/9/2011
St Johns Athletic 1 Ballaghaderreen FC
Ballaghaderreen recovered from the previous weeks reverse to record a fine win over St Johns in Lecarrow. On a pitch that was near perfect despite the heavy rains that had fallen Ballagh always held the upper hand. Aided by a strong breeze in the first half most of the play was in the St Johns half and it came as no surprise when Ballagh took the lead on the 20 minute mark when Sam Durkin was up ended in the penalty area after a surging run, he dusted himself down before slotting home the penalty. Shane Towey made it two nil before the break with a crisp finish off the underside of the bar. With the centre back pairing of Brendan McGreal and Denis Bergin in top form, St Johns were finding it difficult and the game was effectively over when Danny Browne crossed for Shane Towey to head home his second goal. In fairness to the home side heads didn't drop and were rewarded with a fine goal of their own but Seamus Dooney finished the scoring with a fine strike after Shane Towey showed great vision to pick him out. It was a good all round performance with the younger players again catching the eye, Leon Sinnott had a great 90 minutes on the left wing while Steven Moriarty can be happy with his contribution when introduced while established players like Darragh Hunt, Danny Browne, Shane Towey and Sam Durkin were all in top form. Squad: Ian Towey, Robert Towey, Brendan McGreal, Denis Bergin, Pat Browne, Seamus Dooney, Darragh Hunt, Danny Browne, Leon Sinnott, Shane Towey, Sam Durkin, Steven Moriarty Mike Malone

The 'B' Team remain unbeaten after a 4-2 victory over Rahara Rovers 'B' on Saturday night. Paddy Costello openend the scoring in the first minute but Rahara levelled with an own goal shortly afterwards. However a poor clearance from the Rahara keeper rebounded off Kevin Shannon and into the net to put Cloonfad ahead again. Five minutes before half time the sides were level again when Cloonfad Keeper Padraig Miskell spilt a long range effort but he gathered the ball at a second attempt before it crossed the line. To the amazement of everyone at the ground the referee awarded a goal. Cloonfad upped their game in the second half and two well taken goals from Mark Waldron ensured the three points for the home side.

Loughglynn came away with all three points after a thriller in Cam. The away side took the lead in a bizzare fashion when David Flanagans kick out found the back of the net after 5mins.
Cam replied with two quick goals to make it 2-1 to the home side. Mark O'Brien and Padraig Creighton made it 3-2 to Loughglynn at half time. O'Brien then made it 4-2 with an outrageous flick which found the net. Yet again Cam responded instantly to make it 4-3. With ten minutes left Cathal Hitchen made it 5-3, Cam pulled one back again but that was the end to the scoring and Loughglynn ran out 5-4 winners.

CP AJAX 11/92011CP Ajax girls had a busy last weekend when they fielded 3 teams and rounded up the Under 8 & Under 10 teams for this season when taking full part in a well organised Shiven Blitz last Saturday, The Under 8 girls had a very good win against Shiven, 1-nil, with Reece Higgins scoring the only goal of that game, they were narrowly beaten by a stronger Kilkerrin with Reece again on the mark, even though defences were on top, with Katie Hanley and Kaitlyn Hester in front of goalie Katie Mee in fine form. As the other results unfolded, CP U8 shared the U8 trophy they won last year. Meantime the U10 girls had a very narrow exiting 1-0 win v Dunmore with Lisa O Rourke coming all the way from the back to score the only goal in that game, This team were narrowly beaten 3-1 by Shiven Lisa O Rourke on the score sheet again CP also brought alone their Under 6 mixed for a very useful work out on the Astro turf and all the summer training sessions at Tarmon or Kilmurry Hall paid off as the Under 6’s beat Kilkerrin 3-1. goals from Ciaran Kilkenny Rachel Keane and Joshua o Brien .stars for the future!

BALLAGHADERREEN FC 7/9/2011
Glen Celtic 3 Ballaghaderreen FC 1
An under strength and youthful looking Ballagh side felt hard done by coming back from Glenamaddy with no points following a 3-1 defeat. In an evenly contested first half in which Glen were aided by a strong breeze Ballagh had the better chances but it was the home side that took the lead on the half hour mark when the experienced poacher Justin Keavney finished well. Headed efforts by Ballaghs Brendan McGreal and Gavin Conway failed to find the target, Sam Durkin also went close after a great run. The equaliser came just before half time after a Glen defender handled in the area and Gavin Conway netted the penalty. Glen took the lead early in the second half when a thirty yard rocket free kick gave Liam Hayes no chance in the Ballagh goals. Glen added another 10 minutes later from the penalty spot much to the annoyance of the Ballagh rearguard who felt there was 'simulation'. Ballagh pressed hard for the remainder of the game but clear cut chances were hard to come by, Darragh Hunt did hit a post, Gavin Conway clipped the crossbar from a free kick and Sam Durkin shot wide after another mazy run but the home side held firm for a valuable win. Squad: Liam Hayes, Robert Towey, Brendan McGreal, David Kilcullen, Darren O'Brien, Seamus Dooney, Darragh Hunt, Gavin Conway, Josh Gallagher, Sam Durkin, Mike Malone, Denis Bergin, Leon Sinnott, Sean Fleming, David Finn, Carl Morris.

SKYVALLEY ROVERS 5/9/2011
Shane Blackweir was the star of the show for Skyvalley at the weekend when he scored 5 times in the 6-3 win away to Moore United. He thus became the first ever Skyvalley to finish with 5 goals though Padraic Kelly and Mike Keogh both scored 6 goals in the past. This was a badly needed win for Rovers after their loss the previous week to Kilkerrin and the victory was never really in doubt as they had led by 6-1 with ten minutes remaining before Moore got two late goals.
Skyvalley were three in front at half time, all scored by Shane. The pick of them was the second goal when he beat two players before firing into the top corner of the net. Moore had a chance to pull one back early in the second half when they were awarded a penalty but Benny Lynch made a flying save to keep it out. Alan Duffy did get one for Moore but Blackweir scored two more, one from the penalty spot to put Rovers well in command. He almost made it six when he hit the crossbar shortly afterwards. Marcus O'Neill, on his debut, then scored his first goal for Skyvalley before Moore got their two late goals.
It was not such a good weekend for the B team as they went down 3-2 at home to Lisnamult.Rovers had got the season off to a good start with two away wins in their first two games but Lisnamult put a halt to that on Sunday. Alan Grehan scored both goals for Rovers.
Neither Skyvalley team is in league action next weekend as the club is celebrating their 40th anniversary on Sunday 11th Sept. The programme of events include the official opening of the astro turf pith, Rovers A v Athlone Town and Rovers B against the masters team. There will also be underage games, a bouncy castle and complimentary barbeque.

The U-12 season came to an end when thye were eliminated from the Premier Division Cup by Shiven Rovers
Thanks to the management, players and parents for their efforts throughout the season.
The U-8s were beaten in the quarter finals of the Champions League by Shiven Rovers. Despite being 4-0 down at half time, Cloonfad fought back in the second half with goals from Daniel Fagan; Dylan Coleman and Sean Keadin. Although they came close on a few occasions they couldnt find an equaliser.
The 'B' Team played out an entertaining scoreless draw away to Milltown on Sunday last. Jack Swannick was Cloonfad's best player on the day and he came close o scoring on a couple of occassions. The Home side almost snatched victory near the end but Padraig Miskell in Cloonfad goal made a fine stop. Next up for the 'B' team is a home game versus Rahara Rovers 'B' next Saturday evening while the First Team are away to Lisnamult on Sunday.
CP Ajax u 14's played Sky Valley last Monday evening in Tarmon in the home leg of the divisional cup.Sky Valley had a two goal advantage from the first game, and attacked from the start and were rewarded with a goal before half time. In the second half CP pulled it back level when Dylan Shanagher beat the defence to slot home a great goal from close range ,however Sky Valley went through on aggregate score to the next round.
U-16 Divisional CP Ajax 1 St John 1 CP bowed out of the divisional cup Thursday evening in Tarmon, when they played out a 1-1 draw in a tough very entertaining game, CP were 4-3 down from 1st leg, so knew that they had to get a win, they started brightly but by half time it was still scoreless and CP were lucky with a goal disallowed for a marginal offside decision, Paul Mee had threatened with quick darting runs and shots twice before the break. Disaster at the start of the second half St John spring the off side trap and Kieran Farrell scores straight from a kick off. St Johns keeper Michael O Riordan makes a couple of good saves and then Brendan Kilkenny is introduced as a super sub and he scores a glorious equaliser from a cross by Conor Keane. BALLAGHADERREEN 3/9/2011
CB Trotters 0 Ballaghaderreen FC 4
Ballaghaderreen FC made the long trip to Castleblakney and came away with a valuable 3 points following a hard earned win against CB Trotters. While a much changed team from the opening day win struggled during the first half, they totally opened up in the second half to score a convincing win. The excellent Gavin Conway opened the scoring early in the second half and when Sean Fleming scored with a spectacular diving header from a Conway cross there was only going to be one winner. Conway scored his second and fourth of the season following great work by sam Durkin who unselfishly laid it on a plate for the inform winger to net. The fourth was a goal usually seen in in the likes of the Bernabeu when a 'delicious' cross by player manager Ian Towey was met by the head of Leon Sinnott whose sublime touch found the top corner. There were great displays by captain Darragh Hunt, Brendan McGreal, David Kilcullen, goalie John Bergin, Josh Gallagher and the aforementioned Gavin Conway.
While there is a long way to go, two wins and two clean sheets is a great start to the season and promotion to the top division is still on the radar. The large and mostly youthful squad is showing great promise and all augers well for the future.
Squad: John Bergin, Robert Towey, Ian Towey, Brendan McGreal, Josh Gallagher, Darragh Hunt, David Kilcullen, Sean Fleming, Gavin Conway, Mike Malone, Sam Durkin, Leon Sinnott and Steven Moriarty.
The Junior team are running a Last Man Standing Competition starting next weekend, anyone interested in joining contact any member of the junior squad, entry is €10.
MOORE UNITED 29/8/2011
Moore United travelled to Shiven Rovers for the first game of the season and were well beat by a well-organised Shiven side. The opening 45 minutes chances fell at both ends but a bad mistake by Moore sent Shiven in 1-0 at half time.
Shiven started the brighter in the second half and went another goal up ten minutes into the half. Two brilliant saves by the Shiven goalkeeper denied Kevin Kenny any chance of a comeback. Moore kept pressing forward and Alan Duffy was unlucky to see his header come off the crossbar and Shiven went on to win 2-0.
A disappointing result for Moore’s first game, but a good effort form the Moore lads.
Team: Declan Griffin, Declan Murray, Kevin Kenny, Graham Pettit, Declan Duffy, Enda Kenny, Emmet Kenny, John Dunning, Shane Mulvey, Alan Duffy, James Kelly, John Duffy.
Moore will take on Skyvalley next Saturday at 7.45pm in Falty.
A good performance from the Moore B lads against Fohenagh earned them a well-earned 1-1 draw. However Moore might rue the number of missed chances in the second half when the points are tallied at the end of the season. Moore went 1 up on the stroke of half time following a 20 yard effort from J Duffy rifled the back of the onion bag. Moore had the best chances in the second half and should have wrapped the game up. The missed chances seemed to spur on the home side and with ten minutes left the home side took advantage of a mix up in the Moore B box to grab an equaliser. Best for Moore D Whelan, C Duffy & P Dunning.
Moore’s B Team will travel to CP Ajax next Sunday at 2pm.Moore under 18's won 4-3 at home to Dunmore on Saturday evening. Dunmore went 1 up then Moore equalised. Dunmore went 3-1 up and then went down to 9 men through injury and red card. Moore scored 3 in last 20 mins to nick it. All round great perfomance from all the Moore Lads. Adam mc manus Cian Duffy and Rian McNamara were outstanding. Goal Scorer's for Moore Adam McManus 2 & Cian Duffy 2. Moore’s U18’s will take on Glen Celtic next Saturday at 7pm in Falty.
Moore’s U14’s will take on Roscommon Tigers in the next round of the Divisional cup on Monday at 7pm in Falty.
Moore’s U12’s will take on Roscommon Tigers in the next round of the Divisional cup on Tuesday at 7pm in Falty. The Moore United Lotto was not won on Monday the 22nd. The club extends it's sympathies to Dolores Kilkenny and family on their recent bereavement.
It was a mixed weekend for Skyvalley teams as the first team and U-18s were beaten while the B team had a big away win. The first team never got going at all againsta avery committed Kilkerrin United on Sunday and were well beaten in the end. Kilkerrin went one ahead after 20 minutes through Kevin Comer thanks to a defensive mix up. They doubled their lead just before half time when Owen McStay scored from close range after the Rovers keeper spilled the ball. Skyvalley had a lot of the ball in the second half but did not create enough in front of goal. The game was petering out when Kilkerrin made it 3-0 from a McIntee penalty in the last few minutes to round off a poor day for Rovers. They are away to Moore United next Saturday evening at 7:45pm.
It was was better news from Rovers B team as they made it two wins out of two when they had a 5-2 away win to Rahara Rovers B on Sunday. Under 18 player Michael Tumulty was the star of the show for Skyvalley as he scored three of their goals while Colin Flynn and Sean Finneran also grabbed one each to put Skyvalley top of the table at this early stage. Their next game is at home to LIsnamult Celtic B next Sunday.
Rovers U-18s went down 5-0 away to Castlerea Celtic on Saturday evening.

The 'A' Team faced last season's Division 1 champions and cup holders, Dysart in the Premier Division on Sunday last. In a tight first half Cloonfad had the two best chances when David Keaveney could have scored and Fawaz Asialia should have scored. After the break Dysart took complete control and only for Darren O Malley between the posts for Cloonfad they would have been out of sight before the final whistle. From a free kick Andy Glennon's shot ended up in the net. However Dysart claimed a deserved point when O Malley was eventually beaten in the 92nd minute by a Paddy Neary strike.
Lotto Jackpot next week: €4,800. Team on Duty: Dominic Flatley and Declan Costello

BALLAGHADERREEN 24/8/2011
Ballaghaderreen FC 7 Moylough 79 FC 0
Ballaghaderreen got their season off to a flying start with a 7-0 drubbing over a gallant but outplayed Moylough side at the local Community Park. While it took the home side a little time to settle once Danny Browne bagged a quick fire brace midway through the first half the result was never in doubt. Gavin Conways bullet header from a corner left it 3-0 at half time. There was no let up from the home side in the second half and further goals followed from Conway, Shane Duffy, Shane Towey and new skipper Darragh Hunt.
Overall it was a very pleasing performance and a great start in their quest for promotion to the top division. Another plus was the performance of young debutants Leon Sinnott and Josh Gallagher who excelled when introduced. It was not all good news though as the talismanic Danny Browne had to cry off in the second half with a serious ankle injury and will be missing for some time. The club wish him a speedy recovery.
Squad: Liam Hayes, Robert Towey, Brendan McGreal, Ian Towey, Pat Browne, Seamus Dooney, Darragh Hunt, Shane Duffy, Gavin Conway, Shane Towey, Danny Browne, Mike Malone, Leon Sinnott, Josh Gallagher, Carl Morris, John Barry.
Skyvalley got the new season off to at times nervy but ultimitaly successful start when they gathered all three points against newly promoted Lisnamult last Sunday. The final score was 6-3 and Lisnamult provided them with a few scares. Rovers took the lead after 15 mins when Shane Blackweir headed Evan Kelly's cross to the net. Lisnamult quickly equalised through Vando after a defensive mix up. Damien Caulfield put Skyvalley back in front when he slid home a Vinnie Costello pass. Emmet Kelly's centre was then headed into his own net by a Lisnamult defender and Emmet added a fourth before the break to put Rovers three ahead.
Lisnamult did not give up and got two goals through Vando and Roberto to open the game up. Rovers had Benny Lynch to thank as he made a couple of good saves to keep Lisnamult out before the game changed again in the last 15 minutes. Emmet Kelly made it 5-3 when he converted a Shane Blackweir cross and the Adrian Mannion set Emmet up for his hat trick in the last few minutes to round off an eventful game.
Skyvalley are at home to Kilkerrin United next Sunday.
Skyvalley B also got their season off to a winning start with a 2-1 away win over new boys Fohenagh last Sunday. Fohenagh took the lead early on through Lohan but goals from Pat Mulleady and Alan Grehan ensured that Skyvalley took all three points. Rovers are away to Rahara B next Sunday in the league.
Rovers U-18s played Moylough in the semi final of the Roscommon Cup last Saturday evening in Onagh Park but went down to a late goal. LISNAMULT CELTIC 22/8/2011
Lisnamult Celtic made a disappointing start to life in the premier division after going down six three away to Skyvalley Rovers. The first half was a lesson for the newly promoted side when Rovers went in at half time three one up after a poor display by Celtic, but in the second half Celtic did rally and pulled the game to three one with goals from Vando 2 and Roberto 1, but has Celtic pushed forward to level the game Rovers scored two more goals on the break to take the points. Congratulations to our U-12 side who won the Division 1 Title during the week following a 5-1 victory over Ballinagare. Jack Reinhdart scored a hatrick and Dylan Ruane checked in with 2 to claim the title.
Our Senior sides began the new season on Sunday. The A Team were to Castlerea Celtic. The home side dominated the first half but it was still scoreless at the break. The real drama occurred in the first 5 minutes of the second half. Ger Fagan made the most of a mistake within the Castlerea defence to put Cloonfad ahead. Two minutes later, the referee awarded a penalty against Declan Costello for what looked to be the perfect challenge. The decision outraged Cloonfad players and suppporters. Before the penalty was taken Cloonfad had two players sent off for 'protesting'. The penalty was then saved by Darren O Malley but the rebound was finished to the net to level the game. Eight minutes later David Keaveney broke away to unbelievably put Cloonfad ahead and the nine man side somehow managed to hold out for the rest of the game.
Cloonfads 'B' Team under new managers David Foley and Ger Fagan Snr got their Division 3 campaign off to a good start with a 3-0 victory over Lisnamult Celtic 'B'. Paddy Costello with 2 and Paul Regan were on target.

Moore United kicked off their new season by retaining the Gerry Devine memorial cup, which was held over the weekend.
Moore United defeated a very young Ballykeeran side in an opening cracker winning 5-3. The other semi final Melville beat Skyvalley 2-1, leaving Melville and Moore in the final.
The final showed to be a very entertaining game with Moore coming out champions in a 2-1 result. In the opening 20 minutes of this game Moore created chances and were unlucky not to be a few goals up, only for good goal keeping by the Melville keeper.
Moore broke the deadlock on the half hour when a super move by United, ended up with a 30 yard screamer from Enda Kenny into the back of the net. Moore continued to press forward and Alan Duffy was very unlucky not to add a second goal for the Moore side leaving Moore 1 up at half time.
The second half saw Melville coming more into the game showing a great chance from the away side, only for a great save by Declan Griffin. Twenty minutes into the half Moore gave away a sloppy free kick and quick thinking by the Melville forward put the ball over the head of the Moore keeper.
Moore fought back and within 10 minutes Moore were awarded a penalty and Alan Duffy made no mistake from the spot kick. Moore held on to win the cup and are looking forward to the new season ahead. Moore United would like to thank the Devine family.
