Skyvalley Rovers 15/5/2012

Skyvalley would like to pass on condolences to our President PJ Glavey on the death of his wife Kathleen at the weekend. We were all shocked at the unexpected news, Kathleen will be sadly missed by PJ and the rest of her family. May she rest in peace.
Unfortunately it was too late to call off the Roscommon Cup semi final between Skyvalley and Ballinasloe in Lecarrow yesterday. There was a minutes silence before the game in Kathleens memory. As for the game itself it was the same old story for Rovers. It was a game they looked like winning but Ballinasloe came back to win it in the last minute. After a scoreless first half Rovers had the chance to go ahead when they were awarded a penalty after 60 minutes but Conor Duignan's spot kick was brilliantly saved by the Town keeper. Rovers did take the lead when Gary Egan put the ball into his own net with fifteen mins left but Liam Lynch equalised for Ballinasloe less than 5 minutes later. Then in added time Lynch took advantage of hesitancy by the Rovers keeper and scored from the edge of the box to put Ballinasloe into the final.
Skyvalley had beaten both Shiven Rovers teams in the past week to get to the semi final. They first had a 4-3 win over Shiven B with goals from Emmet Kelly 2, Brian Croffey and David Grehan and then had a 2-1 win away to Shiven A last Monday through Emmet Kelly and a Conor Duignan penalty.
Rovers B team were beaten in the final of the Division Three Cup last week when they lost 2-1 to Fohenagh, Ollie Brooks got the Rovers goal.
Things are going better for the Skyvalley over 35 team as they have won their first two games of the new season. They started off with a 2-1 win over St Johns thanks to goals from Ferdie Keogh and Ollie Brooks and then last Saturday they had an easy 6-0 win over Roscommon Town. Alan Grehan scored three goals while Carlos got two and Declan Cooney completed the scoring.
Skyvalley U-12s kept up their good form with a 3-2 win over Moore United. Their goals were scored by Eoin Keogh, Amanda Mannion and Liam Creavin.
Weekly lotto, 7 May. Nos: 15, 21, 25 and 27. There was no jackpot winner or match 3. 5 people shared €100. The jackpot is now €7,000.

Skyvalley Rovers 30/4/2012

Skyvalley’s first team advanced to the next round of the Premier Division Cup last week when they had a 5-1 win over neighbours Dysart. Their next game is at home to Shiven Rovers in the third round of the Roscommon Challenge Cup next Thursday evening, May 3.
Rovers B team have made it through to the final of the Division Three Cup after a 2-1 win away to Ballymoe on Sunday. They will play Fohenagh in the final on Friday evening in Lecarrow  when they will be hoping to add the cup to the Division Three league trophy they won a couple of weeks ago. Andrew Phelan put Rovers ahead in this semi final with a first half penalty before Kirean Dowd equalised for Ballymoe. Another Andrew Phelan penalty in the second half won the game for Rovers.
Rovers U-16s had a 4-0 win away to Cloonfad in the first round of the Challenge Shield. Their goals were scored by Martin Cunningham, Conor Duignan, Tony McEvilly and Bernard Blundell. They are now at home to CB Trotters in the next round on May 10.
Skyvalley U -10s have had a few games lately. They baet St Johns 5-1 with goals from Darragh Moore 2, Conor Blackweir 2 and Daithi Blackweir and also had a 11-7 win over the same opponents through goals from Caitlin Keogh 4, Tom Carey 3, Connell Moore 2, Conor Costello and Shane Costello.  They also had a 5-2 win over Shiven Rovers when Catlin Keogh 2, Tom Carey, Connell Moore and Calum Keogh netted and their only defeat of late was a 3-0 loss to Shiven.
The Masters team get their 2012 campaign started this weekend when they play St Johns away.
The Skyvalley Golf Society had an outing in Athenry last Saturday and winners on the day were Ethan Keogh, Alan Oliver and Leo Flynn.

Division Three Play Off
Skyvalley Rovers B 2  Cloonfad United B 1
Skyvalley B were crowned Division Three champions last Sunday in Lecarrow when two Michael Tumulty goals gave them victory over Cloonfad B. He scored his first midway through the first half when the ball fell to him at the edge of the Cloonfad area and he placed a curling shot into the corner of the net. Rovers were generally on top but could not add a second and Cloonfad got back in the match with an equaliser after 65 minutes. Skyvalley did not let their heads drop and they went back in front less than two minutes later. Mike Dolan cut in on the right wing and his cross was finished to the roof of the net by an alert Micael Tumulty as the Cloonfad defence hesitated.
Afterwards League official Dermot Burke presented the cup to Rovers captain Declan Cooney.

Division 3 Play Off
Skyvalley Rovers 2 Cloonfad United 1
Skyvalley Rovers won the Evening Herald Sponsored  Division 3 Division 3 Championship following a real battle over old rivals Cloonfad United at Lecarrow on Sunday. Cloonfad were the only team in the Roscommon and District league to go the whole season unbeaten in the League and at the end of the day they were very close to forcing extra time at least. Cloonfad played with the wind in the first half and put the Skyvalley Rovers defence under pressure early in the game. Niall Mc Donnell was called into action early in the game and he saved from Paddy Costello and Kurt Reindhart. Gradually Skyvalley Rovers came into the game with Michael Dolan Declan Cooney Sean Glennon and Damien Blackweir playing well. The opening goal came after fourteen minutes when Ollie Brooks and Alan Grehan combined to create an opening for young Michael Tumulty and he gave the Cloonfad keeper Pauric Miskell no chance from a tight angle. Paddy Costello came close for Cloonfad United shortly afterwards but at the other end the Cloonfad keeper pulled off two good saves.
The second half started with Skyvalley Rovers on the defensive and they conceded six free kicks in a short time. The equaliser came when Kevin Shannon was fouled and David Birmingham headed Daryl Geraghty free kick to the Skyvalley net. However Cloonfad conceded a second goal four minutes later. This time Michael Dolan broke clear on the right and while Pauric Miskell did well to keep out his volley the ball broke to Michael Tumulty who controlled it before slamming it into the roof of the net. Only good defending by Patrick Moore Pat Mulleady Nigel Brooks and Alan Blackweir kept the winners in front and they had a lucky escape when a Jack Swanick volley rebounded off the goal post before being scrambled clear. Andrew Phelan created an opening for Skyvalley Rovers near the end as they manager to hold on for a win.
After the game Assistant secretary of the Roscommon and District league Dermott Burke presented the cup to the Skyvalley Rovers Captain Declan Cooney. Both teams will play in Division 2 next season after being Promoted.

Skyvalley Rovers 16/4/2012

Skyvalley had a fairly easy passage into the third round of the Roscommon Cup when they put five past Ahascragh without reply last Sunday in Round Two.Traditionnaly Skyvalley have found wins hard to come by in Ahascragh but it was a different story on Sunday as they completely dominated the game. Jason Clogher set them on their way after 12 minutes with a shot that beat the goalie from 20 yards and the Ollie Brooks added a second with a header from a Damien Caulfield cross. Brooks  made it three nil when he scored with another header after David Grehan had set hime up. He then had two more efforts disallowes before Emmet Kelly put Rovers four ahead just before half time.
The senond half was a fairly dead affair as Ahascragh tried in vain to get back into the game but it was Rovers who got the only goal of the half when David Grehan scored from outside the area to make it 5-0.
Skyvalley A are away to Cloonfad United next Saturday in their last league game while Skyvalley B and Cloonfad B clash in the Division Three title playoff decider. That game  kicks off in Lecarrow at 2:00pm.

Our U-16s got their league campaign off to a flying start last week when they had a 5-2 home win over Shiven Rovers. Mark Naughton 2, Sean Dunne, Martin Cuningham and Eoin Stack scored for Skyvalley.

Rovers U-12s had their first win in a while when they beat CB Trotters 4-0 last week; Eoin Keogh scored three times while Michaela Keogh was on the mark as well. The U-12s had lost their opening game 4-1 at home to Moore United, Michael Keogh got the Rovers goal.

Skyvalley would like to offer condolences to the family of Pat (Packie) Galvin, Castlesampson who passed away last week. May he rest in peace.

Skyvalley Rovers 2/4/2012
Skyvalley B made it through to the semi final of the Division Three Cup when they won 3-1 away to Cloonfad Utd B last Sunday. Mike Dolan put Rovers ahead when he scored after only two minutes and Cathal Glennon doubled their lead before half time when he added a second. Cloonfad pulled one back with twenty minutes to go but Sean Glennon made sure of the victory for Skyvalley when he scored theri third goal near the finish.
These two teams clash again next Saturday evening at the same venue when they meet in the last league game of the season. Rovers need a draw to clinch the Division Three title while a Cloonfad victory will ensure a playoff.
Congratulations are due to Skyvalley B manager Nigel Brooks and his wife Louisa on the birth of a baby boy at the weekend.
We would like to wish the best of luck to Clare Finneran with her move of Tavanagh Meats to Brideswell. While it is a pity to lose the last shop in the parish we are grateful for all the lotto tickets she has sold for us and we hope all goes well in her new venture.

Skyvalley Rovers 26/3/2012

It was a good weekend for Skyvalley as both teams recorded big league wins.
The win for the Rovers B team over Fohenagh was particularly significant as it leaves them three points clear at the top of Division Three with just one game left to play. That last game is away to Cloonfad B who are second in the table and will probably be played in two weeks time. The two teams clash next Sunday in Cloonfad in the Division Three Cup.
Rovers were too strong for Fohenagh on Sunday and Mike Dolan put them ahead with a twenty yard shot after 15 minutes. Two more goals from Ollie Brooks and Sean Glennon made it 3-0 to Rovers before half time. Fohenagh did not offer much resistance in the secomd half and further goals from  Alan Grehan (penalty) and Ollie Brooks set Skyvalley up for the league decider against Cloonfad.
Rovers B were beaten 2-0 by Castlerea Celtic B in the Roscommon Cup last Sunday week.
Skyvalley A's excellent away form continued when they won 4-2 against Roscommon Town last Sunday. David Grehan put them 1-0 up in the first half. Town equalised just after the break but Emmett Kelly put Rovers back in front on the hour mark. Even though Roscommon equalised once more Skyvalley ran out winners when David Grehan and Adrian Mannion each got a goal to leave Rovers in fourth place in the Premier Division. The previous week Skyvalley had put a big dent in Castlerea Celtic's title hopes when they drew 1-1 in Castlerea, Philip Clogher scored the goal on his debut for the Rovers first team.
Skyvalley would like to wish Mike McHugh all the best after his 80th birthday celebrations last week.

Skyvalley Rovers 20/3/2012

Skyvalley A got a very good 1-1 draw away to the league leaders Castlerea Celtic last Friday night. Playing with a much weakened team Rovers took the lead after 20 mins when debutant Philip Clogher shot home from 12 yards. Celtic really piled on the pressure for most of the remainder of the game but had to wait until the 85th minute before Conor McSharry equalised for them. Skyvalley are away to Roscommon Town in the league next Sunday.
Skyvalley Bs exited from the Roscommon Challenge Cup in the first round last Sunday when they were beaten 2-0 at home by Castlerea Celtic B. Two goals in the first half decided the outcome as Rovers struggled to create clearcut oppurtunities. They are at home to Fohenagh in their second last league game next Sunday.

Skyvalley Rovers 12/3/2012

It took a late David Grehan goal to salvage a point for Skyvalley last Sunday at home to Dysart in the league. Rovers created enough chances in this encounter to win two games but had to settle for a point in a 2-2 draw after some wasteful finishing. There was no score at half time even though Pat Moore and David Grehan went close for Rovers. They took the lead after an hour when David Grehan raced through from the half way line before slotting home. The lead did not last too long and Niall Corbett took advantage of some dodgy defending to score twice in ten minutes to put Dysart 2-1 ahead. Emmett Kelly then wasted yet another chance for Skyvalley before David Grehan got their late equaliser.
Rovers are away to Castlerea Celtic next Sunday in the league while Skyvalley B are at home to Castlerea B in the Roscommon Challenge Cup on St Patricks Day at 11:00am.

Skyvalley Rovers 5/3/2012

Skyvalley A Team travelled to Ballinasloe in the Roscommon & District League, Skyvalley lost 4-0 to Ballinasloe, the score did not reflect the game, Skyvalley had numerous changes with David Grehan having his efforts saved by the inform Ballinasloe keeper. It was one nil at half time and 5 minutes into the second half Mark Duffy had a shot from 20 yards to find the roof of the Skyvalley net, Liam Lynch added a 3rd 10 minutes later and the town wrapped up the game in 85 minute by adding a fourth, David Grehan headed against the post which was eventually cleared of the line by Gary Egan.

Skyvalley B were at home to CP Ajax and needed a win to maintain their title challenge, Skyvalley played with the wind in the 1st half and after a mistake by a CP defender the experienced and sharp reactions of Ollie Brooks fired to the roof of the net from 10 yards out to give the home side a 1-0 lead at half time. CP picked up the pace in the 2nd half and with some excellent saves by Niall MacDonald in the Skyvalley goal ensured Skyvalley did not concede. With 20 minutes to go Alan Grehan scored a 2nd for Skyvalley from a free kick. The game ended 2-0 which now sees Skyvalley top of the table with Clonfad United with Skyvalley having a game in hand.

Skyvalley Rovers 20/2/2012

Skyvalley remain in third place in the Roscommon League after going on an eight goal scoring spree away to Kilkerrin Utd last Sunday. Skyvalley's away form has been excellent, this was the fifth time this season that they have won by at least a three goal margin away from home. On the flip side they have suffered four heavy home defeats. Hopefully their good form on the road will continue as they have four away games still to play in the league and just the one home fixture.
Everything went well for them last Sunday and they dominated the match from the very beginning. Skyvalley were 4-1 ahead at half time. David Grehan was Kilkerrin's main tormentor and he ended  with four goals to his name. That brings his total goals for Rovers first team to the 50 mark in 101 appearances. Other scorers for Skyvalley were John Galvin, Damien Caulfield,  Alan Naughton and Emmet Kelly as Rovers ran out 8-1 winners. Keith Mahon got Kilkerrin's lone goal on a day to forget for them.

Neither Skyvalley team are in action next Sunday as the Roscommon & District League team play the Kerry League in the semi final of the Oscar Traynor Cup.

Congratulations to Declan Cooney who got married to Farrah Joyce last Saturday.

SKYVALLEY ROVERS 13/2/2012

Skyvalley suffered another heavy home defeat when they were beaten 4-1 by Shiven Rovers in the Premier Division of the Roscommon League last Sunday in Onagh Park, Taughmaconnell. This defeat drops them to fourth in the table and they will be hoping for better things when they play away to Kilkerrin Utd next Sunday in the league. Shiven were on top for much of this game and were 2-0 ahead at half time thanks to goals from Padraic Delaney and Shane Harkin. Skyvalley improved for a while after the break and Alan Mannion got a goal back when he converted a David Grehan cross. They could not get an equaliser and Shiven scored two more goals in the last 15 minutes to seal a big win for them.

It was a better day for Skyvalley's second team even though they had to settle for a 1-1 home draw with Milltown. Rovers are now just one point clear of Cloonfad B at the top of the Division Three table and the two sides still have to meet. A draw was a fair result in this game even though Milltown had a couple of chances to win it late on. Milltown went one ahead in the first half and were proving a hard team to break down. Rovers were awarded a penalty early in the second half when Michael Tumulty was fouled and Andrew Phelan just about squeezed the ball past the keeper to make it 1-1. Tumulty then had a chance to make it 2-1 but the keeper blocked his shot. Milltown went very close to grabbing a winner in the last five minutes but Niall McDonnell made two great saves to keep them out. Rovers are at home to Fohenagh next Sunday in their third last league game.

Skyvalley would like to wish the best of luck to Declan Cooney who is getting married to Farrah Joyce next Saturday and also to Liam Finneran and Marcus O'Neill who are heading for sunnier climes in Australia. Hopefully they will be back soon in the Rovers colours.

Skyvalley B maintained their three point lead at the top of Division Three when they had a 2-0 win away to Ballymoe last Sunday. After a scoreless first half Rovers took the lead on 50 minutes when Ollie Brooks was put through by Declan Cooney and he beat the keeper with a low shot. They doubled their advantage minutes later when Michael Tumulty scored from close range when he connected with a James Finneran cross. Ballymoe put Rovers under pressure for most of the remainder of the match but were not able to get past goalie Niall McDonnell and his defence as Rovers held on for three valuable points. Skyvalley B have a home game against Fohenagh next Sunday while the first team are away to Kilkerrin United in the Premier Division.
Skyvalley would like to offer condolences to family of Paddy Finnneran of Onagh, Taughmaconnell who passed away last Thursday. SKYVALLEY ROVERS 16/1/2012

Skyvalley had their first home league win since October when they scored three times in the last ten minutes to beat Castlerea Celtic last Sunday. This win keeps them in second place in the Premier Division table. Things did not look to good for Rovers early on as Castlerea dominated and went into a two goal lead thanks to a Giles McDonagh penalty and a Ronan Curran header. They got one back before half when Marcus O'Neill scored from a tight angle.Castlerea extended their lead with fifteen minutes left when McDonagh scored another penalty and they looked home and dry at that stage. However Cormac McDonnell scored with a free kick to give Rovers a chance. With five minutes to go Emmet Kelly was put through by John Galvin and he rounded the keeper before netting to equalise. Rovers then got the winner in the last minute when Alan Naughton scored with a well hit shot from twenty five yards after David Grehan's first shot had been blocked.
It was also a pretty good day for Skyvalley B as they got a draw away to Milltown FC and are still three points clear at the top of Division Three. Milltown scored in the first half and then missed a penalty before half time as Rovers struggled but they improved in the second period and equalised with just a few minutes remaining. Nigel Brooks was fouled outside the area and his free kick was sent into the net by Alan Grehan  for his eight goal of the season.

SKYVALLEY ROVERS 12/12/2011

Earlier in the season Skyvalley had a 6-3 win away to Moore United but the tables were well and truly turned on Sunday when Moore romped to a 4-0 win in Onagh Park, Taughmaconnell. This was another heavy home defeat for Rovers and though they are still top of the Premier Division it is increasing unlikely they will win the league as they have way more games played than their chasers. Moore more or less dominated from the start on a pitch made heavy after a very wet morning and they took the lead before half time through Alan Duffy. Skyvalley threatened to get back into the game early in the second half and were unlucky when David Grehan hit the crossbar but Moore made it 2-0 when John Greene netted after 60 mins. There was no way back for Skyvalley after that and conceded two further goals to round off a bad day.
Their next game is away to Castlerea Celtic on Friday 23 December.

It was better news for the Rovers second team as they had a 3-1 win away to Ballinasloe Town C. Rovers went ahead in the first half when Declan Cooney's free kick was diverted in his own goal by a Town defender. Alan Grehan made it 2-0 after 65 minutes with a low shot from twenty yards. Ballinasloe pulled one back with 10 minutes left but Michael Tumulty scored from close range shortly afterwards to seal a good win for Slyvalley. Rovers are now five points ahead of both Cloonfad B and Ballinasloe in Division Three with the same number of games played.
Our astro league came to a conclusion last Monday night. Jim Keogh’s team won the league by beating Liam McDonnell’s team 3-2 in the final. Teddy Galvin 2 and John Costello scored for the winners while Adrian Naughton got both goals for Liam’s lads. Dermot Harney’s team beat Brendan Butler’s team in the shield final. Thanks to Liam Clogher and Pat Fitzgibbon for doing most of the refereeing and also thanks to the eight captains for having their teams ready on time every night. There was a presentation of medals in McHughs afterwards.

SKYVALLEY ROVERS1 9/12/2011

Skyvalley made their exit from the Connacht Cup when they lost a penalty shootout against Manulla  last Sunday in Co Mayo. The game had finished 2-2 after extra time and Rovers lost 4-2 on penalties. They did not have much luck in this game as they had the ball in the net on four occasions but two of them were disallowed for offside. Manulla went ahead on two occasions but goals from David Grehan and Marcus O'Neill had Rovers level after ninety minutes but Manulla got through to the next round after they scored four of their penalties.
Rovers are at home to Moore United in the league next Sunday.
Skyvalley B had no game at the weekend. Their last game was a 1-1 home draw with Cloonfad United, Andrew Phelan equalised in the last minute for Rovers to keep them on top of Division Three. They are away to Ballinasloe Town C next Saturday evening.
We are down to the finals of the astro league at this stage. Liam McDonnell’s team play Jim Keogh’s team in the league final while Brendan Butler is up against Dermot Harney in the shield final. We would like to wish a speedy recovery to Jarlath Moore who had the misfortune to break a bone in his hand in last week’s semi final.

SKYVALLEY ROVERS 21/11/2011

Both Skyvalley teams put in good performances on Sunday but while the second team took all three points against Rahara Rovers B the first team had to settle for a scoreless draw against Roscommon Town.
This draw does not really help them as Ballinasloe Town are breathing down their necks at the top of the table but they could not be faulted for effort as they did everything but score against a strong Roscommon team. The first half was a fairly even affair and Benny Lynch in the Rovers goal had to produce a couple of good saves to keep the Town out. One save in particular from a point blank Paul Allen header was excellent.
Rovers were on top for most of the second half with Evan Kelly and Emmet Kelly getting in some great crosses but the balll just would go in and though Rovers were disappointed with the result they have the consolation that they are still leading the Premier Division but they have extra games played.
Skyvalley B went to the top of Division Three after a 3-0 win over Rahara B in Onagh Park. The game was scoreless at half time but Rovers pulled away with three goals in the last twenty minutes.Alan Grehan scored their first with a fine finish after being set up by Sean Glennon. Nigel Brooks made it 2-0 when he connected with a Declan Cooney corner. Mike Dolan then shot into the roof of the net after a good run from Alan Blackweir set him up.
Rovers B are at home to Cloonfad B next week while the first team have the weekend off.

 SKYVALLEY ROVERS 14/11/2011

It was another good day for the Skyvalley B team as they recorded a 5-1 win over Ballinasloe Town C in Taughmaconnell last Sunday to move into second place in the Division Three table. Rovers are now just one point behind Cloonfad B and have two games less played.
Skyvalley got off to a flying start in this game when Michael Tumulty scored from close range after Nigel Brooks had headed on a Declan Cooney corner. They made it 2-0 after half an hour thanks to a twenty yard left foot volley from Nigel Brooks after Liam Finnerans free kick had been blocked. Ballinasloe had a chance to get one back just before half time when they were awarded a penalty but Patrick Clogher made a flying save to keep Rovers two ahead. Ballinasloe did score early in the second half through Kenneth Kenny but it did not take Rovers long to get back on top. Emmet Kelly made it 3-1 with a successful penalty and then got another when he converted a Sean Finneran cross. Alan Mannion scored Skyvalley's fifth near the finish when he collected an Andrew Phelan pass before placing the ball into the bottom corner.
Skyvalley B are at home to Rahara Rovers B next Sunday at 11:00am while the first team are at home to Roscommon Town at 2:00pm.

SKYVALLEY ROVERS 7/11/2011

Skyvalley maintained their position at the top of the Roscommon Premier Division after their 5-2 win away to Lisnamult Celtic last Sunday.
This was a good bounce back after their defeat to Ballinasloe Town a couple of weeks ago. David Grehan was the star of the show for Rovers as he scored four of their goals, Lisnamult had no answer to his pace and finishing. Alan Mannion scored Skyvalley's other goal while Marcus got both of Lisnamult's goals.
It was also a good day for Skyvalley B in Lisnamult as they also recorded a win there. Declan Cooney, Michael Dolan and Pat Meleady ghot the goals in a 3-1 win against Lisnamult B.
This win keeps Rovers four points behind league leaders Cloonfad B in Division Three but Skyvalley have three games in hand. Rovers B are at home to Ballinasloe Town C next Sunday in the league while the first team have no game as the Roscommon & District League team are playing the Mayo League in Lecarrow.

SKYVALLEY ROVERS 24/10/2011

It was not just Man Utd that had a bad day last Sunday as Roscommon Premier Division leaders Skyvalley also suffered a 5-0 home. And like Utd this defeat will hurt Rovers as it came from neighbours Ballinasloe Town. The first half of the game was a quite close affair and Rovers had a few chances but went in one down at half time. Things went from bad to worse in the second half as Ballinasloe were unstoppable with Liam Lynch once more tormenting the home team as he finished with a hat trick of goals.
Both Skyvalley teams are off next weekend.
We are starting the masters astro turf league on Monday 7 November. If anyone who did not play last year is interested in taking part they should contact any club official before Thursday 27 Oct.
Skyvalley would like to wish the best of luck to Vinnie Costello who is emigrating to Australia along with his wife Anita. We will miss him just as we have missed Keelan Daly and Fintan Moore who have also moved abroad in the last few weeks.

 SKYVALLEY ROVERS 17/10/2011

Skyvalley stay on top of the Premier Division after a comfortable 5-0 over Cloonfad United last Sunday in Onagh Park. They got off to a flying start when they scored after about ten seconds. Shane Blackweir broke down the right side and his cross was finished to the net by David Grehan. The rest of the first half was pretty even and Cloonfad spurned a couple of chances to equalise. They were to regret them in the second half as Skyvalley went on a scoring rampage. Marcus O'Neill, Cormac McDonnell and Shane Blackweir all scored to put Rovers four ahead with twenty minutes remaining and they could even afford a missed penalty. They left the best till last when Alan Mannion hit a superb volley from 18 yards that flew into the roof of the net.

Next Sunday Rovers A are at home to  Ballinasloe Town in a top of the table clash while the B team are also at home, to Rahara Rovers B.

Skyvalley U-18s were knocked out of the Division One Cup when they drew 3-3 with Moore United in the second leg of their semi final. The first leg had finished 3-2 to Moore with both Rovers goals coming from Ronan Kildea. Rovers had to come from behind on three occasions in this game but were unable to get a winner that would have sent the tie to extra time. Cormac Clogher, Michael Tumulty and Ronan Kildea got the Rovers goals.

Weekly lotto, 10 Oct. Nos: 1, 7, 19 & 24.
No jackpot winner. O Moore and F Carty won €100 each for match 3s.

SKYVALLEY ROVERS 10/10/2011

Skyvalley's B team made it four wins from their first five league games when they overcame Moore Utd B in Onagh Park last Sunday. This win puts them in second place in Division Two while the first team sit on top of the Premier Division to make it a good time for the club at the moment. Rovers were well on top for the first half but had only one goal to show for their efforts. Alan Grehan put Michael Tumulty through after 25 minutes and he found the net with a well placed shot. The second half was a more even affair but Skyvalley made sure of victory on 70 minutes when Brian Lennon's free kick was headed home by Alan Grehan.

The B team have no game next weekend while the first team are at home to Cloonfad United in the league.

It was also a good week for the Skyvalley U-14s as they won the final of the Division One Cup last Monday.  SKYVALLEY ROVERS 5/9/2011

Shane Blackweir was the star of the show for Skyvalley at the weekend when he scored 5 times in the 6-3 win away to Moore United. He thus became the first ever Skyvalley to finish with 5 goals though Padraic Kelly and Mike Keogh both scored 6 goals in the past. This was a badly needed win for Rovers after their loss the previous week to Kilkerrin and the victory was never really in doubt as they had led by 6-1 with ten minutes remaining before Moore got two late goals.
Skyvalley were three in front at half time, all scored by Shane. The pick of them was the second goal when he beat two players before firing into the top corner of the net. Moore had a chance to pull one back early in the second half when they were awarded a penalty but Benny Lynch made a flying save to keep it out. Alan Duffy did get one for Moore but Blackweir scored two more, one from the penalty spot to put Rovers well in command. He almost made it six when he hit the crossbar shortly afterwards. Marcus O'Neill, on his debut,  then scored his first goal for Skyvalley before Moore got their  two late goals.
It was not such a good weekend for the B team as they went down 3-2 at home to Lisnamult.Rovers had got the season off to a good start with  two away wins in their first two games but Lisnamult put a halt to that on Sunday. Alan Grehan scored both goals for Rovers.
Neither Skyvalley team is in league action next weekend as the club is celebrating their 40th anniversary on Sunday 11th Sept. The programme of events include the official opening of the astro turf pith, Rovers A v Athlone Town and Rovers B against the masters team. There will also be underage games, a bouncy castle and complimentary barbeque.
The Skyvalley U-14s advanced to the semi finals of the Division One Cup when they had a 2-1 second leg win over CP Ajax; Hubert Downey and Mark Richardson gor the goals. Skyvalley had won 5-3 in the first leg.
