An under strength Junior team travelled to Glenamaddy on Sunday for a First Division game with high flying Glen Celtic, but were unable to burst the home teams bubble.  Two first half goals were enough to put Glen Celtic in the comfort zone for the second half. St John’s put pressure on the home goal on a few occasions during the second half but, were unable to force the home goalkeeper into a worthwhile save.  Underage training has re-commenced for the forth coming season check out the clubs “Facebook” page for days and times. All at the club wish goalkeeper Aidan Fallon and all of the Roscommon & District league panel the very best of luck for their game next week against the Kerry league in Tralee.

ST JOHN’S ATHLETIC 5/2/2012

There was no game this week as the Roscommon and District representative team played host to Limerick in the Oscar Traynor cup quarter final at the County pitch, Lecarrow. It may be biased to say but the St John’s Athletic goalkeeper Aidan Fallon put in a man of the match performance to help the team through to the semi final against the Kerry league in Tralee in a few weeks time. St John’s full back Martin Lennon and the whole panel of players deserve tremendous credit for their performance on the day. Next weekend the junior team are at home to Dumore, the game kicks off at 2pm.

The junior team travelled to Ballymoe FC on Sunday afternoon, the weather was fine, but, the pitch very heavy. The home team out played St John’s for long periods and would have been disappointed that they had to wait until the hour mark to get their first goal. T he two goals to nil final score line flattered the visitors. The club would like to wish Aidan Fallon and Martin Lennon and all the Oscar Traynor panel the very best of luck for their game in Donegal next Sunday against the Inishowen League.

ST JOHN’S ATHLETIC 18/12/2011

The Committee would like to wish everyone connected to the club a very happy Christmas, and a prosperous and healthy 2012. On the pitch the junior team travelled to Ahascaragh on Sunday, the pitch was in good condition following the heavy frost. Shane McCormack got St John’s off to a flying start when he scored direct from a free kick after six minutes. The home side had started the better of the two and the goal knocked them back for a few minutes but they recovered to equalise before half time. St John’s were a shadow of the team that beat Rahara Rovers the previous week and it was no surprise when Ahascaragh went ahead with about twenty five minutes left on the clock. Both teams had chances before the end but the home side held on for a vital three points.

The Committee would like to thank Kelly’s Bar and Lounge in Lecarrow for hosting the clubs table quiz on Friday evening. Thanks are also sent to Milestone electrics of Athlone and Coffey’s Agri and all the other people who donated prizes or prepared food for the night. The Junior team played host to Rahara Rovers in a local derby in Lecarrow on Sunday afternoon, the pitch was wet and heavy but in good condition after the recent weather. St John’s had the perfect start when after seven minutes the Rovers goal keeper failed to hold a thirty yard free kick from Johnny Divine and
Padraigh Carroll was on hand to tap home the rebound. Rahara probably edged possession for the rest of the half but Mark Giblin and Trevor Breenan worked hard in the John’s midfield and the back line were well marshalled by Declan Dowling, John’s missed several chances before the break and the teams went in at half time with just the one goal advantage. The second half started in a similar fashion with Rovers battling hard but twenty minutes into the half Johnny Divine controlled the ball and flicked it over the advancing keeper to double the lead. Shortly after the game was over as a contest when good work by Ronan Gatley put Paul Brown through, he rounded the keeper to make it three nil. In the closing stages Niall Noughton smashed the ball past Aidan Fallon in the home goal from the edge of the six yard box as a consolation goal for the visitors.
