Welcome back,
This will be a quick update of how the first half of the 2020/21 season has gone until after the winter transfer window.

August

14 points from a possible 21 starts the season well, we bounced back from a 5-1 loss to Gillingham by thumping Peterborough 5-0. Out of the EFL cup in the 1st round wasn’t what we wanted though.

September

8 points from 15 keeps us ticking over in the league and a nice win vs Liverpool’s kids.

October

12 from 18 and another thumping this time Wigan beat us 5-0.

November

4 points from 6 in a short month but we’re through in  the EFL Trophy. Out of the FA cup in the 2nd round.

December

12 points from 15 and through in the EFL trophy gives us a happy Christmas

January

12 from 18 points and its the end of the road in the EFL Trophy on pens vs Man City U23s

Table

11 points from the automatic spots and 8 points inside the playoffs gives us some breathing room. Looking at our form so far i predict a playoff finish the season.

Willock

We bought Matty Willock in once the Winter Window opened due to injuries and we were weakest in midfield also Luke Murphy will be leaving in the summer so a potential replacement brought in early.

Balance

No gifts this winter sees us losing £5m already this season,  the future looks bleak, a lack of cup runs might of hindered us in the FA and EFL cups.

Thoughts

We have lost more games already this season than last but we have been more attacking, I felt we needed to push for the playoffs so we have been more adventurous, it’s paid off but in some games as you can see it’s also seen us take a few beatings. We’re in a solid position and I hope to keep pushing and make the playoffs, I think the automatic spots are probably out of reach the top 3 sides are so strong.
If I do make the playoffs and time allows it I might stream the games. Keep an eye on my Twitter for any updates.

Thanks for reading.

  1. Matty Willock is a quality player in league one. He has been solid for my Gillingham team.

  2. Nice wee blog post again, mate. Enjoying the continual/required focus on the balance sheet.
